I am looking into buying my first bike and I really want a Honda CBR 600 and i believe this bike is right up my ally. My friend is selling it. Its a very clean bike, no crashes, clean title, and looks like everything is good to go. He just put new tires on last season. The only thing that bothers me is that it has 12k miles. is that too many miles? What is considered high mileage? How long do these kind of bikes last?

**** How much should i offer to buy it for?

(for those experience bikers)

  1. For your answer about 2000-2500 I believe would be a fair price, The mileage is not an issue if maintenance was carried out on schedule.

For the truth Get yourself some rider training and a smaller bike to learn to ride you WILL most likely skid a 600cc sportbike down the road.

  2. If you take it easy and ride within your limits, you won't crash. Everybody doesn't crash. For the record a 600 is a learners sport bike. Out of the big 4 I think the CBR is the best to start on. I would recommend taking the class though. It's fun and very informative.

Miles means nothing as long as the guy maintained it well.

The kelly blue book value is actually $4400 retail. Look to pay between $3500 and $4000. Don't go over $4000. Offer $3000 and let him start bargaining. if you can settle around $3500 great.

  3. first bike... CBR600..   not a learners bike...   so buy it cheap because your going to throw it down the road...

  4. I would say between $2500 to $3000. depending on the bike that is.  is it in stock form or is it full of customs parts? Stock bike usually cost more then the custom bike(in terms of sportbikes in general). 7 year old bike with 12000 miles should be appropriate. My old bike was a 99 r6(bought new)(sold it after 5 years) that got up to 32000miles. Been through alot of trackdays in the last 2 years of her life. Sold it to guy in NC.

Just so you know, i had a few friends who owns the F4i. They are solid bikes. Engine is super smooth and honda reliable. They are a bit on the heavier side but im sure it shouldnt bother you.

If its possible, ask him to open the sidefairing to see whats under there. Look for anything unusual that might be in to question, scrape, bend of body frame, bend of engine cooler etc etc.and while your at it, look under the engine too see any signs of any engine oil leaking.

good luck and becareful....you did mention its your first bike. Seriously you should avoid buying the 600 and get a used rebel or similar to train yourself the mechanics and brush up on your reflexes. U see the reason why i say this is because i really want you to enjoy riding bikes in the long haul and not short term due to bad experience. When you learn the basics and getting your hands , body, and legs comfortable with the bike controls,  you will actually learn faster.

Whatever your decision, take your time to enjoy it. heres my tip : When you hesitate, press your clutch!

    Good luck
