Question:

Questions about Carnival cruises??

Ok, first of all, I'm 15 and I'm going on a Carnival cruise with my best friend and my grandparents. It's a five day cruise to the Bahamas, and I have a few questions about Carnival cruises.

-Do cell phones work on the ship? I'm gonna want to call my family at some point but I heard that the ships phone charges an outrageously high price.

-Do a lot of teenagers go? I don't want me and my friend to be the only kids there. We'd be so bored..

-What are some things I should be sure to bring? I'm scared I'm going to forget something important. And that would suck.

Thanks!

  1. Cell phones don't work on cruises - they don't have towers (although that is going to change soon).  If you have an international SIM card, you can call when you are close to land or in port.   You may want to check online for international disposable phones or international SIM cards if you phone can use them - this would be your best bet.  You can also buy a package of minutes to use the internet - so keeping in touch with family and friends might be easier that way.

Carnival Cruises have a lot of teens on them, you will definately not be the only one.  There are also plenty of teen friendly activities and location on ship.

Things to pack:  toilettries, sunscreen, good walking shoes (if you are going to do shore excursions), swimsuit, sunglasses, a case of bottled water (its good to have water when going on excursions), fancy clothing if you are going to the formal dinners, books/mags for laying by the pool, a camera with a huge memory card.  Honesly, I can fit all of the above in one small bag.  I pack light for a cruise - just about everything is provided for you, and if you forget a toothbrush or something there are shops.  Plus, you will probably shop in the ports, and never wear half the clothing you bring - so don't bring much.  Have fun!

  2. Im 15 also, and there was tons of teens that were on the ship.

My cell phone didnt work, but we went to mexico not the bahamas

  3. your cell will work for the first hour or so after you debark, then you will be out of range. When you wake up at the bahamas you will have service again but you will probably be roaming

CHECK WITH YOUR PROVIDER on the roaming fees. I got s***w last year because i made a few phone calls from the Bahamas on the boat.

Nonetheless, If your just going to call and say that your safe to your parents or whateve, then it will be fine to pay the few bucks, but it will be a bad idea to call your buddies and brag about all the fun your having for 30 minutes.

Yes, you will find peers your age. make sure you go to the info meeting for your group.

Of course bring your Passport! but besides that bring a book you want to read, your mp3 player, comfortable shoes or sandals. durring the day you do a lot of walking. Digital Camera

  4. You are right the phones on the ship are terribly expensive (35.00 for a 3 minute conversation). If would suggest you leave you cell phone at home because depending on you cell phone provider you pay enormous roaming fees. I took a cruise last summer and had a friend who returned home to a $3,000 Verizon wireless cell phone bill. He contacted customer service and they said that when you are roaming in international waters you pay enormous prices because you are using international cell phone towers.

-Carnival Cruises are loaded with teens and they have excellent programs geared specifically for teens. With Carnival I have been on Valor and Glory and they have something called "Club 02" which is a video arcade and dance club geared for teens.

  5. You are gonna have fun, no doubt.  Went on a carnival cruise a year ago.  What ship?

Most carnival cruises have teen dance clubs and other things for the kiddies to do.  Your cell phone won't work, sorry.  Best thing you can do is use the internet cafe online, but if I remember correctly it's about 75 cents a minute to be online.

I think it depends on the time of year as to how many kids go.  There weren't alot on our cruise because it was school time.

Sunglasses and sunscreen are a must.  Maybe a floppy hat.  I enjoyed laying on deck reading a book, but I'm a bit older than you.

Hope that helps.  Any more questions?   oh an maybe some motion sickness medicine!

  6. You will have a blast. We took my son and one of his friends when they were 15, and we hardly saw them. They joined the teen club and were always doing something, karoke, dancing, theme parties, hanging out, etc... In fact, I remember the last night of the cruise about midnight, they came running in the room, stripping their bed sheets off their bed, because they were going to a toga party. We purchased the group picture of about 40 teenagers. As far as the cell phones, they may work on some ships, but you will be charged by the ship's price, which I hear is pricey. We always got an internet package and emailed everyone. This way we could also print our boarding passes. Don't worry about forgetting anything. You will want sunscreen, probablly two bathing suits, casual clothes and one nice outfit for formal night. They will have one formal night on a five day cruise. I remember that the boys didn't want to bring anything for formal night because they said they would just go to the buffet and eat with their friends, but when they saw all the girls dressed up, they were glad they brought some nice clothes, and actually wore them all evening. If you want to know more about what kinds of activities will be on your cruise, go to their website. You can even check out what kind of excursions they will have. It will help you get more excited. Have a good time.

  7. Many of the Carnival ships have cell phone service now (at a fee)  there is also an Internet cafe where you can send and receive email (fee aplies)

  8. Your cell phone will work only if the ship is within range of a cell tower, not likely for the greater part of the cruise.

Carnival has lots of stuff for teens to do. The one I went on had a disco just for teens, a "bar" with non-alcoholic attractive fruit drinks, tanning beds, a karaoke night and there's always the pool and tennis court and basketball court and fitness room.
