Well i have been a bird lover my whole life, every since my first bird Kiwi, a yellow budgie. He lived 9 years! When he died i was devastated and came across my second bird, Petri, a blue budgie we acquired as a baby from a friend. Petri died recently when my Mom was out of town and my Sister through a party where they got drunk and blew Hookah smoke in his face which i am certain killed him. I was so upset, he was only 2 years old AND my sister killed him! Now she is moving out and i feel safe enough to have a bird again and this time i am looking at Cockatiels. I heard they can learn to talk(even though my Budgies never learned) and make great pets because they are very sociable. A few questions though...

How much do Cockatiels cost and where can i buy them(or look)?

Is there any way you can tell how old they are by looking at them?(

Both of my Budgies were free range(meaning they didn't have a cage, just a play area), will i be able to do this with a Cockatiel?

Anything else?

^thats where i got my bird

most cockatiels are like $100-$200? i think lol

  2. Cockatiels are wonderful pets!

I would reccomend that you buy a handfed baby from a local breeder.  Avoind the petstore!  You are probably looking at a price between $100-200 depending on it's mutation.

Another option is to adopt a bird from a local rescue, though not an option for everyone.

yes they can learn to talk though males are more prone and easier to teach.  Our whiteface says pretty bird and croaks like a frog.

Most breeders band birds showing the date of hatch.  Younger birds also have softer feathers and pinker feet.

It is best to have a cage for them when they are unsupervised, they can be very mischevious!  Allowing them as much out of cage time as possible though is awesome!

They also need lots of veggies in addition to seeds and pellets!

    They are awesome birds!

  3. im sry about ur budgies, they are awesome birds, i have three, i also have a tiel, he is amazing and is really bonded to me

tiels cost about 50 bucks and u can get them at any petstore, most are hand tamed, if u want a real handtame one u can search for a breeder in ur area, its hard to tell young from old, and yes, cockaitels love play areas, but he will need a sleeping cage for comfort, check out http://parrotcentral.net/cockatiels.htm for good cockatiel info   goodluck!
