Questions about Future trunks and cell(in DBZ)?

In dragonballz how come Future Trunks didnt know about Cell if Cell came from his future.Trunks only knew about Androids 17 and 18.

When it showed cell taking Trunks time machine.If cell killed trunks in the future why didnt he die in the present time.Trunks was alive during the whole Cell saga.

can someone please explain

Have you watched Back To The Future? Basically it's the same principal.  They have 2 different time line due to Future Trunks appeared in the current time line. Simply put, Future Trunks comes from the alternate time line. Which means, you got 2 different set of time line.

It's a bit chaos when you mess around with the time line. So read carefully;

1. Trunks (first appearance) succeeded going back to the past to meet Goku which basically change the history of the current time line Dragon Ball's in. I'm not sure which chapter tells this, but it's said that after Goku along with Future Trunks and fellow Z warrior beat Android 17 & 18 in the past, Trunks goes back to the future and later he's killed by Cell. He didn't know the existence of Cell at the time.

Number 2. Trunks only died on that time line, the future 'alternate time line'. Therefore it won't affect the current 'original time line' or the past time line above. After killed Trunks, Cell goes back to the current time line (above) in searching for Android 17 and 18.

3. While doing this, Trunks (first appearance) also goes back to the past and unknowingly, the history already changes by having Android 16, 19 and 20 and the existence of Cell on the current or 'original time line' that he intended to go. That basically set up for a new 'past' and 'future' for Trunks as he know learn about the existence of Cell.

4. After beating all those Androids and Cell. Same thing like the first one (refer number 1). He goes back to the future. Only this time, he killed Cell, not the other way around. There you have it, a mess up time line because Bulma creating a Time Machine!

In conclusion, there's two different time line existed in Dragon Ball series. The Future Trunks time line and the current, original or main time line. If the time line was the same, you'll be having much more trouble thinking of;

"If Cell and those Android was killed in the past, why didn't the future changes back to normal by having peace and all those Z warrior (like Gohan) comes back to live?"

"If Android 17 and 18 still alive, would it still be a chaos in the future?"

The future where Gohan trained Trunks is set up 13 years after Goku and the others died.
