  1. Some common glues were usually made from the rendered remains of horse, bones, and hides, but not all, despite many believing that superglue was designed for use in  place of stitches in the space program, it was not invented for that reason, this is just urban myth, although it is used for that purpose, it was not invented with that in mind...

Glues have two primary properties that are important to users, they are cohesion, ( the ability to hold together ), and adhesion ( the ability to hold onto the surfaces being glued),

In the case of many glues like superglue, it was a case of accidental discovery, that brought it into being, as was the "post it " notes we all know and love...the first has a high degree of structural strength, ( cohesion), and a high degree of adhesion, but fails on many types of materials, such as the matrerial used for motorcycle helmet visors ( cyanoacrylates, or non absorbent materials like leathers, or waxed surfaces), the second has a high degree of cohesion , but a low degree of adhesion, hence the abvility to be removed, if needed...

Animal bones were the source of the earliest forms of glues, but have been suceeded by such glues as PVA's (wood glues), that are waterproof, and often clear, when dry, or "impact" adhesives that are rapid in drying, often on contact with the surfaces needing glued...

The use of animal glues, are still common in the manufacture of certain musical instruments, where flexibility is needed...but never were they invented, for the aid they give in sealing wounds in people, the earliest glues known of, were actually in the making of weapons such as bows of a composite nature, where there were two or more forms of wood, needed to give flexion, and extension to the bow, i.e. strength on the pull and the release, of the bowstring, so I am sorry but the person telling you any different, was probably , misled themselves.....
