Is JR Yamanote Line already crowded at 6:00 in the morning?

JR Yamanote Line: Ueno to Tokyo station on hyperdia.com. What is the meaning of the orange balloon? What is the meaning of outer loop? Does it stop in between stations or is this a direct trip from Ueno to Tokyo station?

JR Yamanote Line runs every 30 minutes from Ueno to Tokyo? I thought they run more often than that. Is this right? The other one I see is JR Keihin-Tohoku Negishi Line.

  1. >Is JR Yamanote Line already crowded at 6:00 in the morning?

    Not so much.

    >What is the meaning of the orange balloon?

I can't answer this without seeing what it is.

    >What is the meaning of outer loop?

Outer loop means "clockwise" train. If you go from Ueno to Tokyo, you would take outer loop. On the other hand, if you go from Tokyo to Ueno, you would take "inner loop" which means counterclockwise. Do you know what I mean?

    >Does it stop in between stations or is this a direct trip from Ueno to Tokyo station?

Yamanote line stops at every station.

    >JR Yamanote Line runs every 30 minutes from Ueno to Tokyo?

NO. It runs every 3-5 minutes.

    >Is this right?

    yes.

  2. On M-F the Yamanote line is crowded in the morning until about 1030.  Crowded someitmes like sardine cans, or a little less.

Basically, the Yamanote line is a loop, there are trains running in clockwise and counter clockwise directions.  The outer loop is the counter clockwise direction.  When you are on the platform, the signs tell you in what direction the train is headed.  The signs might say in the direction for Tokyo, Shinagawa.  Or the signs might say towards Ueno, & Ikebukuro.  The Trains on the Yamanote will stop at all stations.  If you happen to take the wrong train you can just get off at the next stop and switch trains.

The Yamanote line sometimes runs trains every 1.5 minutes.  It depends on the time of the day and number of passengers.  Don't worry, the Yamanote line is always running.

The Keihin Thoku line, runs some of the same stops as the Yamanote Line, but travels Between Omiya and all the way down to Yokohama.  It is a linear path, where as the Yamanote is a loop line.

  3. It wouldn't be that bad at 6:00-it's after 8:00 that the crunch comes. The stops between Tokyo and Ueno are Okachimachi, Kanda and Akihabara-you are correct the Keihin-Tohoku line will get you from Tokyo to Ueno as well. They run a lot more frequently than every 30 minutes-think more like every 5.
