  1. You may want to talk to your National Guard recruiter, because the National Guard offers a Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) with ROTC where you are a member of both and you get to start on your career path before you even get your commission. Also, the National Guard offers 100% paid state tuition at a state university.

Also, the Officer Corps are a usually assigned their branches off of a wish list, but this is as per the needs of the Army. I believe if you do SMP, you can choose. But don't quote me on that.

The Army Signal Corps has not only technical communications (radio repairers, network and computer people) but also communications content people. That is reporters, TV journalist, photographers, photo journalist, writers, and more.

I am enlisted, and I am now in the National Guard. You may want to go to 1800goguard.com to find out some more. I am not a recruiter, so I cannot answer all your questions.

This has been my $0.02 worth.

  2. You don't get to pick what branch you get when you commission.  You have a "wish list," but that doesn't guarantee you a particular branch.  For instance, since you are a woman you could be assigned to transportation, quartermaster, signal, intelligence, adjutant general, finance, medical service corps, etc.
