Question:

Questions about Polaroid films...?

Hi, I'm getting into photography with an old Polaroid camera I found in our closet and I have some questions about what kinds of film it can take. I know the default for the camera is 600 film. The camera is a OneStop 600 Express.

I don't think 669 film (and thus http://www.freestylephoto.biz/sc_prod.php?pid=1024 < this kind of film is not compatible either) is compatible with my camera. How much does a camera cost these days that is compatible with that kind of film? Is Fuji slated to continue to produce this film? How's the quality, etc...

I'm also wondering if there are any in-production alternatives to 600 film for when it no longer becomes available for reasonable prices online...

I've been visiting www.savepolaroid.com recently and I don't see any progress in their quest to get Polaroid to sell the rights to another company to produce instant film. Any news on that.

If you can answer some of my questions, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you.

  1. First of all, forget about Polariod file. It is R.I.P. as of Feb 2008.

Second, the film will cost you around $1 each.

Third, you can't do anything w/ the film nor the camera.

Fourth, you can't make copy of the film.

    Fifth, photo will not last.

Conclusion, go buy a digicam, it will save you a lot of money than using Polariod film.

  2. Hmmmm....Have a look here: http://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-600-Film-...

    and here http://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-One600-Ul...

Google the cam and the film, it's really your best tool.

Amazon is nearly a perfect place for finding this sort of thing, it'll direct you to sellers that still deal with rare film.

Fuji apparently has awakened some interest in instant cameras with their instax line. Though the film used is a credit card sized type, (http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews74737... and a few other models if you search on lomography.com). So it's possible they'll make 600 film (though they still make 660, 667, 690), but currently their instant film is not compatible with your camera.

Another route to go is ebay, if you find a trusted seller and a decent offer, go for it.

  3. I don't know if Polaroid has decided to license out it's technology for 600 film, or if anyone wants to continue manufacturing this particular film.

Fujifilm makes a few pack films, but it is unlikely to pick up the 600 film. I've been keeping an eye on this and wish there was something more hopeful to report.
