Questions about Redox Reaction?

I'm about to enter take chem 1A at sjsu this fall. They said they said i need to understand the redox reaction. What are some subjects(like molar mass or elements) i need to know before i study it? Thx

you need to be able to determine oxidation numbers of each element in a compound. this is done by learning some oxidation # rules

we find changes in oxidation number of some elements change in a redox reaction because they take or lose electrons, our job is to balance the atoms & molecules, after we balance the electrons lost & taken
