  1. the Grand Place fab you will love the sights and really enjoy trams and trains very reasonable Gent is my favorite place and I know it very well but Brussels will be fine if you are staying there?enjoy

  2. you mention a "short visit" so i suppose you only have one day. in that case it's quite simple: visit the "grande place" - it's fantastic. I live in belgium and I come there say once a year - and every time I'm overwhelmed. walk around in the suroundig streets, have a drink or a bite (not on the market square because it's a lot more expensive then the surroundig streets) and enjoy.

also try the "sablon". it's a 10 minute walk from the market square and you'll find the best chocolates in the world, besides the interesting 16th century buildings (I'm not fixing a priority).

If your staying in Central Brussels, you can do everything just by walking - no need to take bus or metro. however, if you need to know more about plubic transportation, check on http://www.mivb.be/index.htm?guest_user=...

    have a great time!

  3. Brussels is incredible.  i just saw on the news they make an incredible carpet of flowers in the main square.

I went last year and found all of Belgium to be gorgeous.  I"m not sure of the cost of public transportation, but unless you have a really long way to go I would recommend walking.  Every building and spot you pass is so beautiful a walk is perfect to see it all.

  4. Don't go. Come to Hasselt Instead. Its just down the road. We have a town square with bars and people to see. Also lots of kebab restaurants and night shops.

  5. Not much on the street car. Try the sprouts.
