Questions about Vitamin D?

I take Vitamin D every morning for my depression. My doctor said I have SAD (Seasonal Affect Disorder) with which my body becomes depressed with lack of UV rays. Actually, it's the lack of Vitamin D maded by my body because of the UV rays. So my uncle, who takes supplements for everyday said that maybe I should try taking a Vitamin D supplement to replace the Vitamin D my body isn't making. Should I continue trying it or forget it and call it an "old wives tale"?

  1. he is right. But the kind of Vit. D that you are not getting is Vitamin D3. This D vitamin is only found in the UV rays of the sun. But you can take D3 supplements. When you are low on D3 you become moody, more prone sickness, and more aches and pains. D3 is most commonly defficient in winter months (October-May). This is when less sun is shining down on your beating skin. Me I take 5,000 IU of Vitamin D3 a day. I have been for the past 2 years. I have never gotten sick and am a lot less irritable. Local food stores and GNC will probably not carry Vit. D3 because it is expensive. They will sell just Vit. D1 and D2. So really the only place to get D3 at is over the counter (I think - or - from your Doctor)

  2. Your uncle is right.  Thank him.

  3. chuck is correct, D3 is the only way to go.

I don't know where you are from, but in Canada any health food/organic food store that sells vitamins will sell D3 on the shelves, but it is pricier than most vitamins, I usually pay around $30 for 60 capsules, whereas 100 capsules of regular Vitamin D would cost me about $8.

Do yourself a favour and spend the extra money to get the product that will help you with SAD and general wellness all year long.

  4. take it.....it HELPS!!!!!!!!!
