4. when we got past the 15th century and realized women were actually people of equal quality as men

5. patriarchal society, they created the whole problem of oppressing women and having to get past that

There are quite a few web sites which talk about the lives of women in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Middle East. I've put a couple of links below.

Try not to approach the information you read with your mind already made up ~ many women in non-western countries find it offensive that people have pre-set views about their lives.

Don't forget, these women are very strong and proud, they have won through to have the right to vote against a very strong system against them, raise families and live happy lives, so don't assume they are different to women where you live!

This doesn't mean they don't have particular difficulties and issues they deal with, but deciding in advance what we think of their lives is not helpful for anyone.

If you talk to the vast, vast majority of Arab women, they don't see themselves are repressed. They see themselves as protected by men and they know they have the least responsibilities for the most privileges than any other women in the world.
