  1. You must know someone as a Lawyer a police officer or someone .

If not you have to go to Immigration office and explain your situation.

Bank officials are no longer permitted to.

  2. Cariad is right, the rules have changed.

Pretty much anyone who already has a Canadian passport can sign as a guarantor for you, as long as they have had their passport and have known you for five years or more.

If you still don't know anyone that meets that requirement, I believe that a dentist, minister, architect, notary, or chartered accountant can vouch for you.

  3. If you use one of the new forms (available off the Passport Canada site) the guarantor rules have changed.  (but you must have a NEW FORM-that was told to me by Passport Canada).

    New Guarantor Policy

On October 1, 2007, Passport Canada will introduce a simpler guarantor policy, which will allow most Canadian adult passport holders to act as guarantors.

Under this new policy, to be a guarantor, a passport holder:

Must hold a five-year Canadian passport that is valid or has been expired for no more than one year,

    May be a family member,

May reside at the same address as the applicant,

Must have known the applicant for at least two years, and

Must be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older and must have been 16 years of age or older when they applied for their own passport.

By moving to a Canadian passport holder criterion for guarantor declarations, Passport Canada will be able to verify guarantor information from its own database, and will not have to rely on occupational directories.

What should I do if I do not know of an eligible guarantor?

An applicant who is unable to obtain the signature of an eligible guarantor is required to complete Form PPT 132, "Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor". This form must be completed and signed before a Commissioner for Oaths, Notary Public, Justice of the Peace or another official who is qualified to administer the oath. In this instance, it is not necessary for the official to know the applicant personally.

The form is available from any Passport Canada office or by contacting our call centre.

You should know someone out there who has a passport that has known you for two years.  ;)  The guarantor can even be a family member, which makes it easier than before.

Btw, if you do your passport online at that site I gave (with E-pass) and you are going in person to a Passport Office, that helps save you time.  When we went it was a 10 minute procedure, rather than waiting an hour like people who had hand written the application.  (make sure you do the form with the bar code on it, thats the one I am talking about)

  4. why can't just go to the Canadian embassy.. if you are Candian you must have a Canadian passport.. one that expired.. if you need a new one.. what is the problem?
