Question:

Questions about a concrete walk?

Landscaper just put in a concrete walkway for us. Concrete is colored sort of reddish. The guy mentioned we might need a sealer or something for the concrete? Any ideas, I have never heard of this. Also, how long should we give it until we walk on the new concrete? Thanks.

  1. Concrete sealer can be purchased a most home improvement stores or from a concrete supplier. Concrete fully cures in 28 days but can be walked on after 24 hours but you should be careful.

  2. Tons of different concrete sealer out there... just do a search.  Find something that fits in your budget.

Concrete usually sets up in a day or two depending on the weather. But take several days to actually cure. You should be able to do what you want with it in a day or two.

  3. You can walk on it tomorrow, in most climates. To run a car over it (assuming that's how it's intended to be used), wait at least a solid day.

Concrete sealant is available at most home improvement stores. It'll give your concrete a shiny surface. Some folks really don't like that look, so... But sealed concrete won't stain so easily from leaking engine oil, and it takes a little longer for the weather to take its toll. If your concrete is pigmented, the sealant may also keep it from bleaching in the sun quite so quickly.

  4. Thanks for the question I gave it a star..  I learned a lot from the answers.
