Questions about adoption.

My husband and I have been TTC for almost 2 years, and we're starting to think about adoption. What qualifications do we need to adopt? Is there a certain annual income we need to make? Does it matter that he works, but I'm a homemaker?

  1. Good God you still have plenty of time to try to conceive naturally! Do you really want to give up on trying on your own so soon? Adoption is a great option for adults that are older and not likely to conceive but you are very young and god bless you can still have a baby just give it a little more time until you are at least 25 before you go through this long process and it is pricey process too. You are old enough to adopt but could still easily conceive. Good Luck on what ever you decide to do.

  2. Congratulations, considering adoption is an exciting step.

You'll find that while every adoption process will include a detailed background check looking for any criminal or abuse problems, each program has unique requirements.

Broadly speaking, your state's foster to adoption program will be the most lenient with regard to your income, ages and so forth. Also it will be the least expensive route. Some other programs, notably some international programs, will exclude you because of your age and the age difference between you and your husband.

The best resource to get you started is at adoptivefamiles.com. Navigate to the Adoption Guide section and select the matrix. That will allow you to input your info and learn which programs best match your family. Here is a link to the matrix: http://www.theadoptionguide.com/tools/pl...

If you decide to go further, please be sure to read their complete article entitled How To Choose An Adoption Agency. They include links to your state's website along with a wealth of information about reputable adoption agencies. They are by far the best source of quality adoption information available online. And their magazine is excellent as well!

  3. when you adopt, you need to adopt for the child's needs not yours...

that aside, usually you just need to be making above poverty level, you can adopt from foster care if you want to foster, they usually like SAHM... if you are thinking only private infant adoption that costs a great deal...
