Question:

Questions about alternative fuels ?

Assuming it will take 10 years for any new drilling to reach the pump... How long will it take for alternate fuels to reach the pump? Or how are we going to convert the millions of cars on the road now to use other fuels? Will this cost us more money to convert the current gas guzzlers to something more eco friendly? I agree we need to find other methods to power our vehicle and homes, but to say no new drilling because it will take years to reach the end user???? I am seriously inquiring about an estimate on how long it will take for alternative fuels to reach my vehicle. Are we really going to continue to send money over seas while we scramble for new energy sources?

  1. Alternative fuels will take a long time to have any impact on price.  But they are a long-term solution.  An increase in drilling probably won't have any effect on price, because other countries would probably decrease their output to compensate (if you haven't noticed, OPEC controls their output to keep the prices at the level they want).  And even if there were an effect, it would be short-lived.

  2. Easy young grasshopper...

  3. Not any time soon.

A lot of people are in the same boat as you.

Until manufacturers can come up with alternatives we're all pretty much footing the bill.

Toyota has the Prius which is a hybrid-electric. Over a certain speed it kicks in the petrol engine, but under a certain speed it uses the electric system. When your foot hits the break it tops up the battery.

But still - there's no real alternative to petrol / diesel yet.
