OK. so basically I wanna be a surf photographer, and the main questions I have arent abou equipment, but are how to get recognition and noticed by magazines and such...

which is used by the magazines? film or digital? and If i want a picture featured in a magazine do I just email them the pictures or print them and send them in the mail? also do I need to ask the surfers their names if I will send them into the magazines?

if anyone else has done this i am just wondering how long does it take and how many bad pictures will u take until u start getting it right and how long does it take for them to start asking u to do "jobs" for them ??

gracias mucho

  2. just start sending pics in, look at the magazines submission requirements, there are standard rates for compensation, initially you just want to get [published, eventualy you will  want all rights reserved

  3. One of my surf partners, Brian Magaleta, is a photographer for ESM plus I have another friend to continually gets published.  You can submit either digital or printed pictures.  They need to be very clear and the colors can't be dull.  Also, in most cases, you must have a signed release, or be able to get a signed release, before the magazine can print the picture.  You will need to check with the magazine for specifics.  Contest pictures are a different story as most entry forms give releases for pictures to the organization holding the event.  You might want to contact Brian through his website for more information.
