Question:

Questions about braces? (Feel free to answer any of them.)

Okay, so I have an appointment on August 26th for x-rays (speaking of which, will it be only x-rays, or molds too? & is there anything else?) .

It'll only be my 2nd time going to my orthodontist .

He says I don't need spacers or anything like that; I'll get the braces right away . So, knowing this, how long do you think it will be from the day of the x-rays, until the day I actually get my braces on ? & do you think I'll get the top & bottom set at the same time ?

Another thing: I know you're not supposed to chew gum, but I'm an addict ! Is there any kind of gum you can chew safely, without damaging the braces ?

1 last thing: Does it hurt at all getting the braces put on your teeth ? I know it hurts for the next 3 days or so, but what about the actual day ?

Sorry for all these questions, you don't have to answer them all if you don't want haha . Thanks to everyone who answers !

:)

  1. It really depends on your orthodontist. They probably won't do molds the day of the x-ray because they have to have the plaster stuff ready. but they might, as I said it depends on the ortho, as does the time from getting the x-rays to having your braces put on.

The other questions I CAN actually answer.

Ok I'm a definite chewing gum addict as well and I was scared I'd have the same problem. But seriously you can chew gum. They say you shouldn't do anything when you have braces but I did and mine never broke. As long as you don't sit the gum in the one place in your mouth for too long. Like you've gotta be constantly chewing so it doesn't get a chance to stick to the braces.

Doesn't hurt at all to get the braces on. Maybe a little uncomfortable because you have to have your mouth open for ages but yeah. And yeah your teeth hurt for the next few days but it's not unbareable. I mainly had trouble eating. Basically I just didn't chew for a while. Getting braces off is something else entirely. Now THAT hurt. They have to like chip the glue off your teeth and it hurt!

anyway good luck with your braces :)

  2. HI!!!! Ok im getting mine august 12 and i cant wait but here is wat happends...wen u get there they take a x ray of ur teeth but not like at a dentist u have to take off glasses and earrings... then they put a thing on u and u have to put ur head on a thing and the x ray goes around your head and thats it of the x ray after they get your mold u have to have 4 d molds are tasteless but u may gag sum but i didnt...u want to breath threw your noes though...after that u get another x ray so u take the same stuff off but this time u have these things that go in your ears (they dont hurt) and i dont really remem but i think it just takes d x rays nothing goes around u or antthing...then u have 2 have pictures taken u have them things that pull you mouth open they have u hold it to pull it open and they take pictures...thats wat happend at my ortho...but from wat i no thats it...but ive heard that they do for the first few days wen getting them on and about a hour after getting them take sum pain killers before or after getting them...i would not recomend gum because if it gets stuck it could hurt(bff did that) but if u did chew sugarless gum like trident,,, yes u will get the top and bottom at the same time

  3. im 11 and getting braces sooner so ill come back and tell u after there on but make there more days to answer k

  4. i had braces for two years and i chewed gum all the time.

  5. When I got my braces, i had the X-ray things, molds, and braces all in one day! But that is just my orthodontist.

You might have the same, or usually they wait like 3-4 weeks.

If you are supposed to have both top and bottom, you wil probably get them on the same day.

My ortho says that you can have sugarfree gum, becuase it doesn't stick. It actualy helps and makes your mouth nice and clean! (:

It actually doesn't hurt that much getting them on. It kind of depends on the person putting them onOne tip- DO NOT touch the cement with your tongue. It is so so so bad tasting. I almost threw up (becuase no body told me it tasted bad)

For the next couple days it will hurt, becuase you have all the random stuff in your teeth, and they have to get adjusted to them.

good luck & don't get to nervous, its not that bad! (:
