Question:

Question(s) about braces?

Do you think that it is worth going through physical pain for a superficial reward of "beauty"?

--which is really subjective anyway, seeing as some people (like me) don't agree with the majority's opinions on such matters--

Also, I dislike taking ANY type of medication, (because they disrupts the body's neurological function.) That is already a problem with spacers, how will braces compare?

I can barely eat with spacers on (I got them two days ago) when will I be able to eat?

and, in essence, is all of this torment really WORTH the results?

Please and thank you for answering

  1. It was for me, I have straight teeth now thanks to braces. If I didn't get them I'd wish I did because my teeth were very unorganised.

  2. Yes its worth it. I had braces for almost 6 years and just got them off, and I am glad I got them. My teeth were pretty bad before. Spaces are a pain but it will only last a while give it a few more days. Try softer foods until then.

  3. i just got mine off 2 days ago. yeah it was painful at times, but WELL WORTH IT!

    beauty is pain =D

but I deffinitly love the results.  im sure you will to.

youll deffinitly be able to eat! its just annoying trying to get food outta your braces =p

but besides that. pains worth it. getting them on is the hardest part and the rest is smooth sailing =D

  4. When I was a child I had TERRIBLE buck teeth.  I  couldn't even chew properly. I was in 2nd grade when I got my braces.. too young to really have a say, really, but now that I'm an adult I think it was worth it.  Even though I have nothing else going for me, at least I have a nice smile.. ha!

  5. For some people who think that beauty conquers all then it may be worth it. But personally, going through the pain of getting them tightened every month or so isn't worth it in my opinion.

My friends keep on telling me to put a cap on one of my teeth because it grew out to be very sharp but I like the way it is. Sometimes a little croaked teeth makes you, you.

  6. YES!!! it will definatly be worth it!!! trust me =] u r gunna hav ur smile 4 the rest of your life (as long as u wear ur retainer after braces) and don't you want a pretty smile???... its gunna affect u the rest of ur life... u will be soooo soooo happy that u did this in the future.

  7. Its definately worth it, Beauty may be superficial, but It also makes you feel more confident about your appearance and yourself. I had them for four years and i am very comfortable with the way i look now. I hope that helps.

  8. braces are not just for esthetics.  i've seen people in auto accidents get braces to correct severe malignment of teeth and jaw bones.

    look up "intermaxillary fixation"

another reason for braces is to correct tmj problems.

for those with SEVERE dental or skeletal dental misalignment, completion of braces can improve self esteem, and avoid emotional and verbal abuse from peers.

there has been much research done about beautiful people.

"beautiful people"  generally get hired over others and make more money.

also don't forget that most people are judged based on first impression.  And for the most part, unless you live in Care Bear Land, we are a superficial society.

  9. For some, orthodontics is about cosmetics, but for MOST, it is

much more than that.  If your teeth are misaligned it can result

in jaw pain and possibly TMJ, and make it harder to clean your

teeth, which could result in cavities.

Taking medication is unrelated to being in orthodontics.

From personal experience, having the spacers was quite uncomfortable, but this went away after a day or 2.  The first day of

getting and archwire would make my teeth sensitive as well, but it

would go away in a day and if necessary I would take Tylenol.

Having a beautiful and healthy smile is so worth a couple of years

    of inconvenience and occasional discomfort.

  10. It's worth it... deal with the pain. Lots of people get braces... actually MOST people get braces. You can't eat for like 4 days... and it hurts for about 7, and still feels weird for about 14. After that, everything is easy.
