Question:

Questions about cigarette smoke?

My mom smokes, she tries to smoke only in her room and in the kitchen under the stove fan. Yet the entire house smells of smoke, and I reek of it. I'm 15 and this causes trouble at school. Does the smell carry throughout the house? How do I get the smell out of my clothes, jewelry, and hair? Is there a way to get rid of the smell without massive amounts of perfume?

  1. Nope, the walls are probably even darker than they once were because of the tar I bet.  Only solution is for you guys to steam-clean the rugs etc... tell her to smoke outside or quit altogether.  2nd hand smoke is worst than first hand because it's not filtered when you inhale it.

  2. Not sure how long ago this was asked but here goes.   Fabreze, perfume, whatever you choose to use will not get the smell out completely, unfortunately.  Being an ex smoker I have opened drawers that have been closed for a long time and the fabric in them still holds the odor.  I have had to rewash every single bit of clothing, fabric or have dry cleaning done.  I have found however, ask Mom if this is alright first, boil 1 cup of vinegar and it will clear the air not only of odors but will disinfect the air as well.  Yes you will have a vinegar smell but that goes away and everything will smell much better.  Also, put white vinegar in the rinse cycle, this will eliminate the smell not cover it as perfumed softeners do and you clothes will rinse cleaner, be soft and last longer too.  I agree, your mom knows, she probably hurts inside because of the addiction, cigarettes are harder to quit than crack they say, it is just legal to smoke in your own house.  Hope it all works out.  Maybe she needs to read all the answers posted on here.  Learn my dear, never ever use or put anything into or on your body that does not belong there.  Life is a long time to carry burdens of addictions, bling, tatoos or markings and etc.  When you get older, it will be something you will wish you hadn't done.  Good luck.

  3. use an odor eliminating air freshener it will HELP. does you mom know this bothers you? if not you need to tell her! she might step outside.

  4. that is the only way and of caorse you know that second hand smoke it worse and she should only be smoking outside i am surprized she does but if you have air it will carry thorugh out the house tell her this i am sure she knows if she does't already smokers are the most careless people an dnot caring i have ever seen anyhow.

  5. Lol it sounds like YOUR the smoker trying to hide it from your mum

  6. Tell your mom to stop smoking and if she has ever heard of secondhand smoke

  7.   So many people saying you should TELL your mom anything is wrong

I smoke I smoke in my house I smoked when we decided to have kids and I will continue to smoke and no child is going ton tell me what to do in my house and I would imagine your mother does not want to that from you. I am sorry but so many people saying you should tell your really makes me mad .

What does she live under a rock has she not heard the news , she is old enough to do as she pleases and if you don't like the smell then you can ASK her to get some Febrezze or whatever .

  8. tell your mom to smoke outside. Dry clean the clothes

  9. oh honey, thats a real shame your mum doesnt smoke outside!!! Thats not fair on you. Have you told her whats going on for you at school? Material and your hair just soak up the smell of smoke. There is no way around it unless she goes outside...you need to talk to her about it and im sure shell make changes. And im sure your not going to...but dont EVER start smoking. im a smoker and once you start, it is d**n near the most difficult thing you will ever do trying to quit.  Maybe get one of those things that spray your house with scent every ten mins.  Itll be well worth it.

  10. Tell your mom to quit

  11. Smokers have no clue how bad their house stinks and how it sticks to people and their clothes.  Short of getting the whole house cleaned and maybe even freshly painted and all clothes cleaned.........and her never smoking inside again.....you'll have to explain to your friends your mother smokes and won't quit.

Perfume might help, but never go overboard.  A light mist may help people ignore the smoke stink.  Perfumes should be worn so people don't really "smell" it but rather "sense" it......a little goes a long way.

In the mean talk with your Mom, ask her if you could help her quit smoking because you want her around to be a good grandmother.  Also remind her smoking accelerates wrinkle development on the skin, does she want to be all wrinkled?

  12. ~~It's tough for you, but I think you have already talked to your mom and so you need an answer on how to deal with this. Ask if she can buy you a HEPA filter air purifier (for your room, but in the living room would be great too), this will take the odor out of the your room and keep your clothes fresh (keep your door closed). Don't use any product in your hair (especially hairspray-it really attracts the odor in your hair like a magnet)t, till you are ready to run out the door. Keep a small bottle of Febreeze in your purse and spray yourself (clothes) when you leave. These are the best things I can think of to eliminate the scent on you. The air filter will help your lungs as well as take care of the rest of the problems. Hope that helps, it's a tough addiction she is fighting I hope for both your sakes, she gives it up!!~~

  13. spray the house with febreeze, or in your room , clothes, ect.

  14. That is so sad...sweetie talk to your mom and tell her how you feel, maybe she can go outside.

As far as the smell, I know nothing that works, you can just smell a smoker..and apparently their kids too.

  15. Sadly, most parents wont give up addictions, even for their kids.

Try putting detergent in a watter bottle with water (be smart with portions). Spray this on carpet, sheets, beds, clothes, everywhere. It's okay to go crazy with it. I usually vacuum the carpet after spraying it the first time, then go back and spray it again. I usually do this a few times. The smell is really fresh and lasts for a while, but you'll do this more than once.

Also take a shower in the morning, even get up earlier. Then put your hair up in a really clean towel until you do your hair, and wait to do your hair for a while. That should help a lot.

  16. Im really sorry, i dont know what there called,  but it cleans the air, and looks like a fan. We had one before my great Grandma passes. she was 92 and smoked a pack a day

  17. tell your mom to stop smoking
