  1. Its a CARBURATOR! Its what was used before fuel injectors! Depending on the usage, V8 can use any amount from $60-$200 per week! Theyre quite expensive when it comes to gas!

  2. The round thingie is the air cleaner.  Old V8s use more fuel than you want to buy.  My 440 Charger would get around 10 in town if I kept my foot out of it.  Small blocks are in the low to mid teens.

  3. I think the circular object you are asking about is the air filter on top of the carburetor.

Fuel mileage varied, but wasn't good on the true muscle cars.  The true muscle cars had big block engines exceeding 400 cubic inches and were near or above 500 horse power.

The average fuel mileage on the highway was in the low to middle teens. Some, like the original Chrysler 426 Hemi, the early 427 and 454 Chevrolet, the early 427, 428, and 429 Fords got between 6 and 10 miles per gallon on the highway.  This was considerably less when racing from stop light to stop light.

Keep in mind that gas was only between 40 and 50 cents a gallon when these were made so the price of fuel was not an issue.

  4. are you talking about the round thing connected to the other thing on top of the thing that is under the big thing

  5. Big circular object..?? Are you talking about the "air cleaner assembly" on top of the motor..? This object has an air filter inside, and sits upon the carburator. I have a 1962 chevy impala SS, with a 409 ci motor. I dont even bother to check the mileage, but it must be somewhere around 8 mpg.
