I'm getting contacts today and I'm really scared/nervous. When they do they contact fitting, is it scary when the Optometrist puts the contacts in your eyes? Could someone explain the whole process? And is it scary?

  1. Its not scary, contacts are awesome. They just get your prescription and find contacts that match it. Then they show you how to put them in and take them out. You will get used to it, don't give up, because they are so wonderful. If they are in right, you don't feel a thing.

  2. It's not scary at all. You'll be really happy after it;s done

you wait your turn (depending on who you go to)

go into a room and they'll ask you to put your forehead on the machine and to look into it (like the vision test at the DMV)

you read all the numbers or letters you can.

then you'll slide over to the next machine where you watch something go in and out of focus (i had to watch a farm house)

then you slide over to the last machine where they puff a little bit of air into your eyes which won't hurt a bit (your eyes will just be a little dry, you blink a few times and you're back to normal)

then you'll go into the room with the doctor

you'll sit in a comfortable chair and there will be some letters on the wall. then you'll read what you can and then the doctor will put put a machine up to your head and wil flip the lenses (not in your eye they're like glasses lenses) and ask you 1 or 2 and you pick which one you can see better with and so forth.

then they'll bring another machine up to you and will shine a light in your eye to measure it. (it's okay if your eyes are sensitive and you cry a bit, its normal)

then youll go into another room and the contact person will ask you to look up at the ceiling and they;ll put in your contacts.

you'll feel like your in a fish bowl because eveything is so different. then you'll go back into the room with the doctor and do the test again. if you can see fine with the contacts you'll go back into the room with the contact person. then they'll ask you to take out your contacts and to put them back in. depending on the person they might make you do this twice to make sure you know how to do it and you're comfortable with it. Also depending on the contact person they may take out their contacts and put them back in to show you how. after that they will give you a paper telling you how to take care of your contacts (not to sleep in them and stuff like that) or they'll tell you.

You have a yearly check up so don't forget that

Depending on who you go to this process might be a little bit different

It's okay to be nervous ( i sure was)

and it's not scary, trust me! you will be so happy because you don't have to worry about glasses falling off your face.

    hope i helped. =]

  3. In my experience, the doctor doesn't put the contacts in your eyes for you unless there's a special need. They have YOU do it yourself and teach you so that you know how to do it every day! So, you are in complete control! An Optician will sit down with you and show you and explain things while you try. Not scary at all!

As for the fitting, the doctor will only take a few extra measurements during your eye exam. None of them involve touching your eyes in any way, so there is nothing to worry about there. Basically, you'll have a few measurements done that DONT touch you, and then an optician will sit down with you and show you and tell you how to do everything and sit there with you while you try. Good luck!
