Ok so I am really athletic, and i'm going to do cross country in the fall, but I need to know what the best type of running shoes are. Oh I would also like to know some good shorts that are chafe resistant.

  1. Go to a running store, like fleet feet, or a local store, and have someone watch you run.  That way, you'll be able to find the shoes that are the most comfortable for you.  Don't worry about finding a certain brand--since you'll be running in the shoes for extended time periods you'll want the shoe that feels the best for you.

As far as chafe-resistant shorts go, I've never had any problems with chafing, so I just wear regular running shorts, though I never wear cotton shorts.  But I've heard that dual shorts (shorts with a thin short liner inside, rather than a brief) help to reduce friction.  The only brand I know of that makes them are Asics.

  2. Shoes are very dependent on the person...you should get a stride analysis done. Most good running stores will do it for free and will then recommend potential shoes for you. They'll even let you test out your shoes by running on them for a bit. Running stores are also a good place to check out running shorts. Hope you enjoy cross-country!
