  1. I don't know how much electricity it takes to charge the battery for an electric scooter.

I did some research into it last year, and street-legal electric scooters (like the kind sold at PepBoys and some Asian scooter stores) typically get up to about 25 - 30 miles on a single charge.  Gas scooters can typically get 4× that range or more.  Range on a charge or fuel economy can be affected by your weight, the terrain, and how aggressively or gently you accelerate (and other riding habits).

Here is the rub.  If you have to travel more than 12 miles one-way, you'll either need to make arrangements to charge your electric scooter at school, work, etc., OR you'll need a gas scooter.

While both electric and gas scooters must be maintained (periodic "tune ups"), the electric scooters should be easier to maintain.  Gas scooters need to have oil changes (assuming you're in a pollution-controlled location and mixed oil/gas scooters are forbidden), the spark plug serviced (cleaned, gapped, sometimes replaced), and filter changes which the electrics don't.  Both types will need to have the wheel bearings, chain, etc. serviced periodically.

Fuel (gas or electricity) is not the only cost associated with ownership.  Maintenance, repairs, tires, taxes, tags, insurance, etc. also factor into the cost.

Another thing to consider is the route you will travel.  If you plan to go on the freeway, you'll need a large scooter.  I live in TX and I believe the law requires a 250 cc engine for a motorcycle or scooter to take the freeway legally.  The laws in other areas are probably similar, but you should check.  If you take only surface streets, typically either a gas or electric will do.

As for what kind of gas does a gas scooter take, gas scooters typically take regular unleaded gas, just like cars.  Some may take mid-grade or premium gasoline.  If you live in an area where pollution-control is not very strict, you may even be able to find scooters available which take mixed oil and gasoline.  You would have to buy "2-cycle" oil and mix it in a very specific ratio with the gasoline (some scooters of this type may have an automatic mixer to help you).

With any kind of gas scooter, motorcycle, car, truck, or SUV, either too much oil or too little oil can ruin the engine.  So can the wrong kind of oil.  This also applies to diesel cars, trucks, and SUV's.

To recap, electric is probably a better buy for someone "green" (both meanings: environmentally minded and/or inexperienced).  However, you'll have to stay on surface streets (avoid the freeways).  Gas is necessary if you need to go far and/or fast.  Also check with the local DPS or whichever department regulates and licenses motor vehicles about the legality of using one kind of scooter or the other.  Also, in most places, you'll need to upgrade your drivers license to be able to ride a scooter or motorcycle legally.

Get a helmet, jacket, and other safety gear and use them.

  2. get an gas because you go longer

  3. check out this website.  http://www.vectrix.com

Electricity costs about 25 pence to fully charge the batteries.

Vehicle range is very dependent upon your driving habits and the terrain of your trip. At a constant speed of 25 mph (40 km/h), which is the average around-town commuting speed, the scooter will travel 68 miles (110 km) on a single charge.

A gas scooter is normally a 2 stroke engine which takes unleaded petrol and 2 stroke oil.

With fuel prices rising so rapidly now days I would opt for the electric scooter, this is also ideal as the insurance is alot cheaper. Hope this helps you...

    Merry Christmas.

  4. You should definitely get a gas scooter. They are way less expensive, yet they are faster, more powerful, and they look better! Electric scooters are expensive toys, and you would quickly grow tired of recharging again and again, and you can't get anywhere with them. If possible you should definitely try to get one of those cool two-stroke scooters, because there you can even enjoy the sound and smell! People will envy you for it I'm sure

  5. well u could get a electric bike it goes 15-30 miles and hour dpends where u get it like at toys r us it goes 15 but online if u get it it goes to 30 and u only have to charge it for about 4 hours

  6. It depends what kind of scooter you're talking about.  If you're talking about the sit-down kind that go 20+ mph:

    1) it takes about 4-6 hours to fully recharge the battery of such an electric scooter.

    2) a gas scooter of this type will take regular gas or a gas/oil mixture.

    3) Electric scooters are far cheaper to refuel.  I've got one that goes 20-25 mph max speed and 20 mile range, and it costs me about 12 cents to recharge it after a 15 mile ride (less than 1 cent per mile).  A similar gas scooter will get 50-90 mpg, so with gas at  $3/gallon this will cost 3-6 cents per mile.

However, a gas scooter will cost you less to buy than an electric scooter, but an electric scooter is far more environmentally friendly.  It's also far quieter (you can barely hear them run) and doesn't have the exhaust fumes of a gas scooter.
