Question:

Questions about global warming?

I have been on a number of websites, I have seen "An Inconvenient Truth" and "The Great Global Warming Swindle".

I have looked at a lot of point of views of Global Warming and here is what I have come up with:

Possible causes of global warming:

1. The heat from the sun

2. Greenhouse gas emissions and anything "human caused"

3. Deteriation of Ozone layer due to (satelites, airplanes, space junk, etc...)

4. No reason, it's "God's work".

5. Political Conspiracy to destroy the government.

Sites for human caused global warming:

I just want to know the REAL truth behind Global Warming.

In my opinion I think these are ALL the causes of Global Warming and that they all share somewhat equal parts.

If anyone has any insight please answer

  1. Global warming is a natural phase of Earth, caused by some Solar Activities by Sun. We human don't have to bother about it. Some of the environmentalist says that this is because of the CO2 we are emitting into the environment, but the reality is that we are just contributing towards 1% to 10% of actual global warming.

If the actual cause of Global Warming is CO2 emitted by the humans then why Global Warming occures on other planets. Just Google for "Global Warming on other planets" and see the results, there are no humans on other planets.

Having too little CO2 in the environment will cause for the plants to die more early, more over it also cools down the temperature on earth.

Having too much CO2 (obiviously, not caused by humans. Mostly generated in the Sea/Oceans) will lead to Green House effect and will lead in increasing the temperature on Earth.

So, the best is to plant more trees so that there would be a balance for the consumption of CO2 on the planet.

I personally think that instead of thinking on this baseless issue try to think on what if Nuclear War broke out in the world, it will destroy Earth more rapidly.

So, next time whenever somebody says you about global warming, just ignore it.

  2. Hi Mia

Good to see a fence sitter with an open mind. I was like you a couple of years ago, and after going back and forth a fair bit fell off the fence into the camp that thinks we're causing it. So you might see me as being biased. But I'll try not to sound preachy...

Good links. Another good site to look at is Grist which has a section on questions and answers. Yes Grist is an environmental site, so take that with a grain of salt if you like.

    http://gristmill.grist.org/skeptics

But apart from the basic physics of greenhouse gasses and the balance in temps they create (the world would be about -20c if not for greenhouse gasses), the bottom line for me is that virtually NO governments; NO oil companies; and NO coal companies now publically refute man-made climate change. Even Saudi Arabia agrees we're responsible.

Why wouldn't the oil and coal industry (or countries like Saudi Arabia) be refuting it? They have the most to lose here. $Trillions actually. Why aren't they spending at least $Billions to come up with legitimate research to show it's not real?

I'd welcome any serious research (that the majority of real climate scientists agree with) saying it's c**p and everything's fine and to go burn as much oil/coal/forests/etc as possible. But I can't see that happening...

On that, you hear (from the skeptics) about how it's a conspiracy made up by the thousands of climate scientists so that they get research grants... Er, rightio. Imagine if you were a climate scientist, and you could do research to show we're NOT causing global warming. Don't you think the oil/coal industry would be throwing money at you? (not to mention getting mega-famous as the person that changed history by dis-proving all the other research?).

Hope that helps, and all the best with making up you own mind :O)

  3. CO is the mager problem in global warming.

  4. Scientists don't like to use the word "proof" because everything in science is subject to revision as new data comes in. But the case for human-caused global warming is about as strong as it gets.

    1. World surface temperatures are getting warmer, and this trend has accelerated since the mid 1970's. Almost no scientist in the 21st century has disputed this basic fact, even among the most diehard GW skeptics. Here is the data from NASA / GISS:

    http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabled...

... and from the UK's Hadley Centre:

    http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcrut3/

As I said, even GW skeptics accept that it's getting warmer; the major dispute is what's causing it: human beings, through increased greenhouse gases in the air? Or natural causes, like the Sun? The dispute is more political than scientific, though, because the scientific case for increased greenhouse effect is rock solid.

If the Sun is causing the current warmth, then we're getting more energy, and the whole atmosphere should be getting warmer. If it's greenhouse, then we're getting the same amount of energy, but it's being distributed differently: more heat is trapped at the surface, and less heat is escaping to the stratosphere. So if it's the Sun, the stratosphere should be warming, but if it's greenhouse, the stratosphere should be cooling.

In fact, the stratosphere has been on a long-term cooling trend ever since we've been keeping radiosonde balloon records in the 1950's. Here's the data:

    http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadat/hadat2...

    2. If it's the Sun, we're getting more energy during the day, and daytime temperatures should be rising fastest. But if it's greenhouse, we're losing less heat at night, and nighttime temperatures should be rising fastest. So if it's the sun, the difference between day and night temperatures should be increasing, but if it's greenhouse, the day-night difference should be decreasing.

In fact, the daily temperature range has been decreasing throughout the 20th century. Here's the science:

    3. Total solar irradiance has been measured by satellite since 1978, and during that time it has shown the normal 11-year cycle, but no long-term trend. Here's the data:

    http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/stp/SOLAR/solar...

    4. Scientists have looked closely at the solar hypothesis and have strongly refuted it. Here's the peer-reviewed science:

    http://www.mpa-garching.mpg.de/mpa/publi...

    5. CO2 levels in the air were stable for 10,000 years prior to the industrial revolution, at about 280 parts per million by volume (ppmv). Since 1800, CO2 levels have risen 38%, to 384 ppmv, with no end in sight. Here's the modern data...

    http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends...

... and the ice core data ...

    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/icecore/a...

    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/icecore/a...

... and a graph showing how it fits together:

    http://www.columbusnavigation.com/co2.ht...

    6. We know that the excess CO2 in the air is caused by burning of fossil fuels, for two reasons. First, because the sharp rise in atmospheric CO2 started exactly when humans began burning coal in large quantities (see the graph linked above); and second, because when we do isotopic analysis of the CO2 we find increasing amounts of "old" carbon combined with "young" oxygen. Here are the peer-reviewed papers:

    http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1984JGR......

    http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/mk...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/ab...

    So what's left to prove?

  5. If you took a dump in my living room, I would ask you politely to clean it up. If you refused and then proceeded to continue to defecate where my children live and play I would get angry... and support a guy like Al Gore to initiate a mass movement to make you clean your @#$% up.

  6. Global warming is not caused by humans, it is something that has happened several times in the history of earth. But we humans have contributed to the effect and made it stronger and faster.

Also, god doesn't exist and I don't see a reason to destroy the world in order to take down one goverment.

At some point there will be a time when it's really warm and wet due to global worming, but then there will also come a time when temperatures come crashing down, this could be caused by a natural or unnatural catastrophe.

Then again, I beleive we humans have the resources and technoogy to revert the global worming process. We would just need to stop using fossil fuels and plant a lot of trees. Stopping using fossil fuels reduces CO2 emissions and trees use CO2 and produce oxygen.

  7. I believe in Global Warming 'n all, I just want to know:

-If it's really happening, when will we die and what will we die from?

    -Why does this naturally occur?

-Are da penguins really gonna die in a few years?

-What more can we recycle than paper and water?
