my daughter will be a senior

but she is taking the 1st semester off

in order to withdraw her we must have a code for the withdrawal so we are considering homeschool

but she is an accelerated student and will only need 4 classes to graduate which she plans to take when she returns for the 2nd semester

do we have to teach her a full courseload and teach for the specified 4 and 1/2 hours per day for 180 days?

or can she take several "extra" classes that she wanted to take but won't effect her graduation status?

  1. This is really going to depend on your state's HS'ing laws and regulations.

Why not pull her out for good?  Let her finish those four courses at home, or dual-enroll at a community college?  Then you can issue her a diploma.  If she's college-bound, make sure she takes the ACT and/or SAT tests soon.  Also, make a transcript and a portfolio and you're set for college admissions.

180 days is for an entire school year.  If your state requires it, then you'd just have to do half for the "first semester".

If she only takes one semester of the classes at the PS, then won't she be missing a half credit for each?

Here's a great place to find out the HS'ing laws of your state:

  2. You need to find the laws of your state here: http://www.midnightbeach.com/hs/listlist...

Make sure you are filing and keeping whatever necessary paperwork is required.

It is up to you to decide what "school hours" constitute.  Most homeschoolers will tell you that kids are learning all the time, and therefore your daughter will be learning for much more than 4 1/2 hours just by living her life.

Also remember that no one is going to be looking over your shoulder, counting your "hours."

    Alll the best.

  3. What state are you in? She should be able to take electives and be fine if she will meet all her graduation requirements through the school. Contact the school and explain your plan. You will want to know their expectations up front. Although they may not agree with your plan, they still should accommodate her needs.

Those extra classes could be athletes PE- where she logs PE hours, work study where she gets credit for working at a job, art classes, acting...etc.

    Best of Luck!

  4. I would not attempt to do that unless you are going to use an online charter at this point to finish. Depending on where you live, there are some all over and if there are none that are local to you then I would go with oen that is affordable like ProGress Academy or CLASS
