Thanks for replying! I'm not too familiar with your halau. I've attended the last few Merrie Monarch Festivals here in Hilo and haven't seen them perform. I'm not familiar with the hula mua -- but it sounds radical and progressive. Keep up the good work.

1. Do you agree with "hula rebels" like kumu Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu that the hula should continue to evolve into styles that would not have been considered as hula in the past?

2. Why are there more hula dancers in Japan than in Hawaii? Why has it caught on there while Hawaii 'olapa still don't get the exposure they deserve?

3. Do you agree with the Merrie Monarch judges over this year's choice of Miss Aloha Hula and the overall winner, Halau Hula O Kamuela? What about in past years?

4. Is there still a stigma associated with being a kane dancer?

5. What's your halau? Who's your kumu? What's his or her lineage? How would you describe your halau's style?

6. What do you think about the perception of Hawaiian culture by people who think it's all about grass skirts, surfers and garish shirts? What is the best way to educate them?
