Question:

Questions about kidney stones?

I just found out that I have a 8mm kidney stone. What exactly does that mean? He said it was in my kidney and we didn't need to do anything until it moves. Do they just go away? What are the chances I will have to have surgery to remove it? I am going to see a urologist next week but any answer now would be greatly appreciated.

  1. 6mm stone is about the largest that will pass through without surgery - and if it blocks the urine track you're in for some massive pain. Once it does start to move they will give you high dose anti-inflammatory medication.

At 8mm you're likely out of luck, but depends on the other dimensions and how smooth it is.

They may try the sonic thing to see if it will break up into smaller pieces first.

  2. A hyperechoic 8 mm lesion is the way stones look on ultrasound. You could have a CT or MRI or IVP to evaluate all of the abnormalities described in the report (these are all abreviations for other tests that can evaluate the lesions described). 8 mm kidney stones may not pass spontaneously and you should seek an opinion from a urologist. If the stone tries to pass you could be asymptomatic or you could have severe pain. The lesions described could be better assessed by CT.

Your never going to pass an 8mm stone. It's just to big to fit through your tubes. You will have 2 options. 1 go for Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. which will break the stone up in to smaller pieces so it can easily pass through your system. Or have them  do  Ureteroscopy. Which goes up through your urine trac while your asleep.

But after that they put a stint in your urinary trac. And every time you pee for a week it will be like your peeing needles. I recommend the Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy  first to see if that will work.

  3. kidney stones are Small, hard masses that form by chemical precipitation and are found in the kidneys. Kidney stones vary in size, with most of them being small enough to pass through the urinary tract for elimination in the urine.if urs is huge.. u gotta see urologist

  4. Yes they'll go away, when they start to move out of the kidney to the urinary track. They won't just go away, and someday when it moves, you'll know what pain is really like, not to scare you, just being truthful. Your back will hurt something awful and you will feel the pain wherever it travels. Hopefully you will be able to pass it when you urinate. As long as it doesn't move, you'll be fine. That's why the Doctor told you he didn't need to do anything until it moves. I had one in my left kidney for twelve years and it gave me no problems. Then one day when I had one in my right kidney, which I has passed, they put dye in an IV and to see what's going on and exactly where the stone is located, and when it was over, they told me I had passed the stone in my right kidney, but there was one in my left kidney, he one that had been there for twelve years, and that it grown very large.I had to have it removed lazer. If it has to be removed, they put you in a twilight sleep, IV Sedative, and go up into the kidney and remove the stone. Sometimes they leave a stint in your urinary track in case other pieces are there and start to move out, it won't hurt. But if I were you, I would tell the Urologist that if the stone is removed, don't put a stint in because when they take them out in about two weeks, you'll wish you had the stone, unless they put you to sleep, and I would insist on it. They usually take the stint out in the office, but my son just had that done, and he said never again will they leave a stint in him. Once they get the stone out and analyse it, they can tell you what to avoid or give you a pill to take that will prevent future stones. They are either calcium or stone. Best to you sir, hope I helped a little.
