  1. I don't live in Austria any more, but I was born there, and visit there a lot, so I think I can help.

    1.  Most Austrians eat the big meal at noon and the small meal in the evening.  That's why most Austrian stores and businesses shut down in the middle of the day.  The type of food eaten really depends on the area in Austria.  In the part of Austria I come from (north of Venice), we like Italian food and the local version of cheese ravioli is very popular.  Most people eat soup before the main dish at noon dinner.

Breakfast is usually a fresh roll and cold cuts, or yoghurt, with fruit on the side.  None of that fried stuff.

Yes, refrigerators are usually small, and people generally shop for fresh items every day.  Wealthier people may have extra refrigerator space.

    2.  I live in California, so the main thing I notice is that there are essentially no wood-framed homes in Austria.  Even very upscale homes are built of concrete bricks.  (A great irony: concrete brick home where there are no termites, wood homes where termites are a problem.)

My cousins now live in the house I was born in.  It is over 500 years old, and has been carefully kept up.  My cousin had it refurbished to make it earthquake safe ( the first time steel beams were put in it).  They are not allowed to change the outside in any way because of historic  protection, but it is very different inside now.

The most interesting thing about Austria is that, because it is so mountainous, and travel is not easy everywhere, a lot of people have kept to old traditions, even though the country is very modern.  I think this is different from most places in the world.

I hope that, even if your question was just for fun, you learned something from my answer.

  2. 1)  in our fridge are at the moment: beef, cottage cheese, cucumbers, tomatos, gouda cheese, mineral water, orange and apple juice, butter, mustard, mayonnaise, yoghurt, red bull, carrots,  pumpkin seed oil, olive oil, milk, strawberry jam, apricot jam, orange marmalade, some sausages....i think that's it

    2) i live in the Lungau which is a region in Salzburg where you can find lot of agriculture, our homes are built with bricks, there are different types of roofs - in our regions the roofs with partial hips are common, whereas in other regions they have gable roofs, there are some log cabins but they aren't that common as we were not always allowed to build them (in each region there are different rules depending building a house). our house was a farm when we bought it, it is very long but not very wide, we have a tiled roof with partial hip and 2 balconies, one towards south and the other towards north, we don't need any aircondition as it is rather cold in winter and comfortable in summer, during the night it is always chilly so that it is not necessary to have one. our windows have a timber frame and are made from the carpenter in our town.

    3) austria is known for its culture and desserts, especially the gateaus, the mentality is very special but it is difficult to describe....there is a different coffeehouse culture (no free refills, waiters moving with the speed of poured molasses,......)

    i hope this helped!

    greets from austria,

    ines

  3. um,  lets see

    1. they have like every thing america has, and more(mex, italian-except its like really good, japenese, chinese, and many classic german places.) in friges... well in europe the fridges are actually pretty small, and you usually just get fresh food everyday, so basically beer, coke, mineral water, and like, marmalade. at home:fruits, vegitables, watever u got that day basically, again

    2. Homes in the city are WAY different than those in the country:

-city homes are crammed together, but they're gorgeos.

-country homes are huge, and still gorgeos

-in the city, most ppl live in apartments: most are the same 1s people like bach and mozart lived in. they are really nice in some places, but pretty bad in others.

-my family lives in a house that is 4 stories. it is beautiful, and there is a pool with a hill and a garden in the back. it has a garage for 2 cars.

    3. well, austria has many castles, a gorgeos famous opera, many symphonies, many museums, many parks, and many many cafe's, and countless other things to do.

    hope this helped you.
