  1. Excellent answer Kato!

I would listen to Kato as he really knows what he is talking about.

Good luck with the racing and if you are a good horseback rider I am sure you will make a great mx rider.

  2. Very cool, I love to see girls getting into motocross. The first thing to do is find out about your local motocross tracks and if they have a girls class. You can run with the boys but many of them your age have been racing for 5 to 10 years already so the competition would be tough. Go to your local motorcycle dealer and ask for any information they have on local motocross tracks. They should have all the info you need, location, phone number, web site, etc. Look for a track that holds "open practice" on weekends that they do not race. This way you can go get some seat time on the track without racing right off the bat. It is very dangerous to everyone when an absolute beginner tries to race before gaining some skills first. I would spend the rest of this year just training and practicing. You have to be in serious shape for MX racing. The next thing is your bike and your gear. I would start with a used Kawasaki KX85, Suzuki RM85 or KTM 85SX. The reason I choose these bikes is because they utilize a power valve and the YZ and CR do not. The power valve makes it easier to ride for a beginner (smoother power delivery). cc's just tell you the size of the engine, there will be classes for different size engines, 85cc class, 125cc class, etc. As far as gear, I like these guys... http://www.motosport.com/offroad/index.p...

You will need boots that at least come up over the ankle, pants, knee pads, jersey, chest protector, gloves, helmet and goggles. A kidney belt would be a good idea also and when you start doing bigger jumps check in to a Leatt neck brace. It is a great sport, good luck and I hope I covered all of your questions. One more thing, go to as many races as a spectator as possible before you start racing. You can learn a lot just watching.

  3. you should probably take an 85 for a few test drives.

then once you kinda kno what your doing move up to a 125.

    im on a yz125 (2007 yamaha 125.)

i race and im ery happy with it!

this bike has 6 speeds, holds 2.1 galons of gas, weighs 190 lbs (if you drop it or reck its easy to pick up!) your ground clearence is 15.2 in. perfect for racing and jumping!!!

    ok GEAR!

    your going to want

    jersey

    pants

    HELMET

    goggles

    gloves

    boots

    and protective gear!

you can find all of this at your local yamaha, all sport, any shop that sale motorcrss stuff!

    oh....

if you get a NEW bike! and you have never done this before.

take probably a year to get your bike broken in and to get the feel of how it runs and rides!
