I just purchased a 1080p hdtv with 120htz refresh rate. My cable box only has 1080i and it displays the refresh rate is running at 60hrtz. Is 1080i the same as 1080p??? and how do I get the 120 hrtz refresh rate? Do I need a different cable box?Sorry guys I really don't know much about tv's Any feedback will help. Thanks

  1. Currently hardly anything can go up to 1080p. 1080i is the highest resolution most HD providers will go up too. I'm not sure on the refresh rates you'll have to check your manual.

  2. No matter what you feed into the set, the display will always be 1080p 120 Hz.  Everything is converted to that.  The display shows what the input is, not what you are seeing on the screen.  Unless you have a blu-ray or HD-DVD player, you will not get any 1080p as input to the set.  Broadcast TV is either 1080i or 720p.  Both are 60 Hz.  The 1080i will be "deinterlaced" by the TV set, producing a 1080p picture.  The 720p input will be diplayed as 1080p, but the resolution will be that of a 720p picture.  Basically, your set is working fine--don't worry about it.
