  1. I agree with the answer given by Shade.

The pines have a modification of leaves into needles. This helps in the reduction of damage due to snowfall and very low temperatures.

Also this reduces the rate of water loss in very high temperatures and thereby reduce the water requirement and help the plants to survive.

Many species of pines do well in high temperature but need humidity. Hence difficult to grow in deserts.

Also pines contain oil in their wood and plant parts which helps in survival.

Pines can be propagated by seeds.  Many  Pines reproduce through seeds produced in the pine cones. Seeds are present in the beautiful pine cones.

Pines can also be propagated by cuttings.

  2. The reason that pines can survive both cold and hot climates is that the leaves of the pine have been reduced to needles  (needles are actually modified leaves).  This greatly reduces the amount of water loss through leaves. Pines reproduce through seeds produced in the pine cones. They are in the group of plants known as Gymnosperms which means "naked seed".

  3. There are many different species of pines and each is adapted to a slightly different environment.

Pine cones are full of seeds.  Ever had pine nuts on a salad?  Those are the seeds.
