what is the long profile of a river? also, what factors would cause a high drainage density?

  1. the long profile will show from source to end the gradient/height of the path of the river. From left to right it will start higher obviously and then fall to sea level and the end.


  2. i had a job once where i had to find the source of a certain river. as it turned out, it all started about 40 miles away up in the mountains. everything from the highest peak flows to different draws and drainages and eventually ends up in the main river. the same thing happens to the water on the other side of the mountain. in many cases it may have many feeders, thats why when it rains (heavy) the rivers rise rapidly. hope this helps.
