Ok last time i asked this question i got some rude answers. I just need a website where i can find basic info on surfboards. Like the better brands, the cheap brands, the brands best to start off on. The different types of waxes. Anything that would help me understand so that i can try to help customers understand when they come into the store and ask me a question. Thanks

  1. Your best bet would just be to google surf help or something. There are so many brands out there, so just be familair with the ones that you carry. If you give me the names, I can help you. As for wax, its pretty simple. There are different types (tropical, warm, cool, cold) and they are all for different water temperatures.

Tropical -- For 75 F degree water and above

    Warm -- 64 – 74 F degree water

    Cool -- 58 - 68 F degree water

    Cold -- 60 F degrees and below

As for brands, depends what you carry. I prefer Mrs. Palmers and Five Daughters, Sticky Bumps if I have to. I hate s*x wax, its pretty much a joke. Famous also sucks, but thats my opinion. Your best bet is just to learn as you go along, if you don't know something, lie or tell them you're new. Good luck señor kookaliscious

  2. I offered to help you out, and I was plainly not angry at you. Like I said, everybody needs a job. However, the shop has no right claiming to be a 'surf shop", and putting somebody who doesn't surf in a position to sell surfboards and accessories. Whether you like it or not. it's a sleazy business practice, especially because a lot of the customers are young folks spending a lot of money to buy surfboards. Young people, who are eager and excited to surf come to the store, and expect to have someone who knows what they are talking about help them pick the right board, or wax. or leash etc..I have seen way too many kids get ripped off by sleazy bathing suit stores that sell some surfboards. I have seen kids who are heartbroken and disappointed, because some sleaze bag sold them a  bill of goods. Many of them don't have pals who surf, or older siblings or a surfing Mom & Dad to steer them away from junk. As I said, it is like having someone who doesn't know how to drive sell automobiles.

I have been surfing much longer than you have been alive, and surfing is something very personal to me. If you wanted to ask questions, I suggested you E-mail me, and I would try to help you out. I also suggested you read the questions and answers on this site. Although some are clearly bizarre BS, there are lots of thoughtful surfers who try to share their opinions here.
