  1. The United Nations list of accomplishements are as follows.

    -  12 years of getting bullied by Saddam Hussein, and profiting from the Oil for Food scandal.

    -  50+ years of sustainable stalemate in Korea that lead to the North being able to manufacture a nuclear weapon.  What kind of "Solution" is that?

  2. the judicial settlement of disputes between States is the role of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which is a UN organ and has dealt with a number of cases dealing with disputes over territory.

The peace and security mandate of the UN is far more complex and it deals with it through a number of mechanisms which include peace prevention, peace keeping, peace building, peace enforcement, etc.

The answer to your question is not easy and certainly requires an ellaborate explanation. I believe that a world with the UN is a much better place than a world without it... precisely because of countries that think that they can overstep the international community.

  3. They only succeed if the US backs them up, and we happen to be a little busy right now.

  4. Hi,

I can give you one example, but believe me there are many.

3 years ago i was working in the Congo DRC at a small village called 'Pweto' we had a base there and were working clearing the UXO in the area.

The UN 'peace keepers' came, they kicked us out of our HQ by using a drunk Congo Army Major who waved a gun at us and the priest who we rented from and then took over.

All the local people said that the war was coming now that the UN was back. ( I kid you not, that is how they feel)

I have many first hand stories about the wonderful UN,,, for me i would never trust it nor work for it.

  5. I think the best thing they provide is a place of dialog and aid. It's not really their fault though... you know how hard it is to get our Congress to do anything??? Imagine if instead of only two political parties we had about 50 to try and make compromises with.

  6. No. Not very good. The UN can do nothing without the US. Whatever the US dictates happens.
