Questions about the formation of life?

I'm not into to science but I was thinking of writing a fiction book about the formation of a different world of life. I know no one knows for sure what happened when the first living cell was formed on earth but can anyone link me to info or tell me the names of theories? or give me related info.

Also if scientist were to try to make life out of nothing, using the absolute optimum environment do you think they could do it? Why or why not? What about a computer simulation?

  2. We do know what happened when and how the first living cell could have formed. We don't know what conditions on earth made it happen. We know very well that the atoms of life are the amino acids which make the proteins that make up our genes. Scientists have created amino acids and proteins out of "nothing" as in nothing biological. The next step is to figure out how to place the proteins to make a feasible life form. So yes scientists can do it optimum environment or not.

There are shows by BBC, Discovery channel, Nat Geo describing various possible alien planets. They would help to at least gain the kind of scientific know how needed. If you look for literature given you are not much into science perhaps wikipedia.org would be the best place to start looking. I will give you the name of a hot theory, Panspermia, good luck :-)
