Questions about the upcoming NBA season (Part 8)
Who will be the breakout star of the year?
There is a time in the career of player when he makes a move and carves out his way so as to become a NBA superstar.
Derrick Rose according to many has a very good chance of becoming the breakout star of the year. This player’s inclusion in the
USA team along with the fact that he learned a lot last season would surely help him become a better player in the NBA this upcoming season.
Derrick Rose is already one of the more dangerous players on court while on the offence. He is also seemingly looking to take his three-point shooting to a new level. If he manages in doing so, as he has in the FIBA Championships,
this player will become one of the few players who are virtually impossible to guard. This would mean success for him and it would make his statistics look frighteningly good. Not only that, Rose would also be able to help his Chicago Bulls team make it into
the Conference or even the NBA Finals.
Can the great Shaquille O’Neal be the contributor at the age of 38 that he once was?
During last season, Shaq combined well with LeBron James in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ hunt for a championship ring. Last year saw Shaq finish the season with 6.7 rebounds per game and 1.2 blocks per game with an average of
23.4 minutes that he played in each game.
If we compare these stats to the averages that he managed to pile up in the prime of his career, the difference becomes substantial. Shaquille O’Neal managed to play for 36 minutes per game, averaged 18.5 points per game
and made 10.3 rebounds per game during his perceived peak.
Though he is a 38 year old veteran now, Shaq can still perform well on his day and a good few weeks on his part can help the Celtics ride towards success. Moreover if he manages to recover even some of his ability to dominate
that was abundant during his peak, then the Celtics will be a force to reckon with.
That said, the Celtics expect Shaq to help out more in defence than offence, and this could help prolong Shaq’s career as well as help him play a more relaxed game.
The last of the many questions waiting to be answered is whether or not Chris Paul can manage to pull himself out of
New Orleans?
After LeBron James’ decision to move to the Miami Heat, last season’s best point guard, Chris Paul, asked his team’s management to trade him. Chris had an eye on playing with some big boys in order to win a Championship or
two.
Consequently, when Carmelo Anthony wanted to be traded too, Chris Paul saw a chance of them getting together and then forming a duo that would lead them a team to the Championship title. But Chris’s contract with the
New Orleans doesn’t expire until 2012, and with the talent he offers,
New Orleans won’t be so keen on losing him just yet.
