Ok i have a two year old and a new born. Right now it does not matter but i am worried that in a few months when he is crawling or in a year and walking what do i do. She has and will have toys that are not appropriate for a small child ( you know small parts and stuff) how do i keep him safe. We have a small house and they will be sharing a room (once he is sleeping through the night right now in a bassient in our room).

Besides the obivious of having to be in the room and watch everything for every minute.

  1. I have bought a play pen, and either the younger boys play with their toys in it, or the older ones play with their toys in it.

It's been working out quiet well for us, but our younger guys aren't crawling yet.

    Trial and error I say

  2. A play pen for the baby is a good idea, you need to try and get your two year old to understand that she must not put her toys in the play pen as they could harm her little brother. Other than that, the only thing that you can do is remain vigilant where small parts are concerned

  3. You'll get to know your little one and just kind of 'sniff out' the things that he will get into trouble with.

Keeping the kids separate, or keeping the toys with pieces for naptime helps, and you may also want to invest in a playpen for when your youngest starts crawling.  Besides, once the baby is up and about they'll be more interested in each other than toys!

  4. I have kids with the same age gap - we just didn't have any toys with lots of little bits (they drive me NUTS).  It wasn't much of a problem.  The main problem was when the smaller one finally got enough muscles she'd donk the older one on the head pretty hard with whatever she was holding!  It won't be too much of a problem, you'll work out pretty quickly if anything has to be consigned to the top shelf.
