Question:

Questions about tragus piercing?

I would like to know a little bit about the procedure for a tragus piercing. I also want to know how long it takes to heal. Let's say I go ahead with the piercing right now. Will I be all set to be in the ocean and pool all day in the Bahamas in January?? That's my biggest concern, lol. I don't care about the pain or anything, I already have a rook and industrial piercing and I imagine the pain would be similar to the rook, which was hardly any. The industrial killed tho! Ok this is getting long. Yeah any info on this would help. Thanks!

  1. It shouldn't hurt as the tragus has no nerve endings. However you will hear a audible crunching noise of the needle going through the cartilage. So be prepared for that. Also it should take around 8weeks to be fully fine. :)

  2. i hate to say this but the tragus is EXTREMELY painful to get pierced, it's because it's cartalidge and tough to get through, and it also takes quite a while to heal, they say about 6-8 weeks but it can easily get infected.

  3. honestly the tragus don't hurt at all i got both of them done today. it just felt like a bee sting really and she put the bead hoop in and thats it. she told me to just clean it with warm hot water and soap and thats it you don't push them in and out they will take care of it. mine didn't hurt at all my right one i didn't feel anything and my left one i did feel a little but nothing that i can handle all piercings hurt no matter what you get done some just hurt a little more then others.

    Healing Time 6 - 12 months

    # The prominence of cartilage in front of the opening of the ear canal.

    # Suitable for both captured bead rings and bar bells. It is probably easier to clean a ring.

    # Interferes with putting your finger in your ear

        * Do not touch your piercing with unwashed hands

        * Do not let others touch it while it is healing

        * Clean your healing piercing once a day only, using antibacterial soap

        * Wash and dry your hair before piercing, and frequently thereafter

        * Never use alcohol swabs, Betadine, hydrogen peroxide or tea tree oil to clean your piercing

        * Pain, redness and unusual discharge may be due to infection. Consult your piercer or a physician if you develop any of these symptoms

        * Take vitamin C and zinc to maximise your healing

        * Wait till your piercing is healed before changing jewelry yourself

    Daily Care Routine

        * Do not touch your piercing unless you are cleaning it. Unwashed hands carry bacteria and your piercing is a point where these bacteria can penetrate below your skin and cause an infection.

        * While healing, your piercing will need to be cleaned once daily.

        * Cleaning more often than this will harm your piercing.

        * You will need to use an antibacterial soap that contains either chloroxylenol or triclosan (e.g. Dettol Liquid Soap).

          The step-by-step procedure is:

       1. Wash your hands with antibacterial soap.

       2. Wet the piercing with plain water.

       3. Put a few drops of antibacterial soap on the piercing and work them into a lather with a cotton bud.

       4. Try to loosen any crusted discharge and float it off the jewelry and your skin with the cotton bud.

       5. Leave the antibacterial soap on the piercing for two minutes while rotating the jewelry back and forth, allowing the disinfectant to penetrate the piercing.

       6. Rinse with water and air dry thoroughly. Do not dry with a towel, which may carry bacteria.

Swimming is not prohibited while your piercing is healing, but you should only swim for short periods in pools that are thoroughly chlorine- or ozone-treated. If you swim in the ocean or waterways, do not swim after heavy rain since storm water run-off often contains bacteria and parasites.

  4. Healing can go from anywhere to 2 months to 12 months+.

I've got both of mine done. The first side I go done was my left. It healed within two months with no problems. I used some anti-bac liquid soap from a drug store. ha! My other side, I got pierced in June...It's STILL healing. I mean, if you got your industrial pierced, chances are this won't hurt as bad nor take as long to heal.

You should be all set to go swimming by January.

    Good luck!
