As a junior in high school, I would like to do a home-stay in England. I am a 14 year old female, and will be 16 as a junior. I am very responsible, independent and mature, being away from family is no problem. Is 16 too young to be involved in a student exchange program in England? And do you know of any reliable exchange programs that operate out of England? I would prefer an answer from somebody who lives in England or the UK please. Emails are welcome. Thanks a lot.

  1. as 'lyra' said i am unsure whether english schools do this kind of exchange program. dont know why though i would have loved to of been invovled in one, but ive just left school now.

i havent heard of any schools that had done this kind of thing except our school did an exchange program with a cambodian orphanage. but they did it with the teachers and are planning to do it with the students in the future.

i think that british schools want to have some link with that school beforehand.

i suggest you could always make friends with someone who has a teacher as a parent or relative, as then its moer likely you could go to school with them. (one of our teachers used to regularly bring in chinese students ^^ that were friends with his kid )

sorry i couldnt be of much help with your problem. must say though ive only been to one high school so other schools outside of the northwest of england may do this but im unsure. i suggest you try research it more. good luckkk~

  2. I'm not sure they have schemes as such, but I know many schools get involved in exchanges. My school took part in French, German, Italian and Spanish exchanges, so it's always possible. Perhaps you could write to a school in the area you're interested in visiting, and asking them to ask the families that attend the school if they would be happy for you to stay for a week or two. You would have to be prepared to pay them though, as it will cost them money to feed you.
