I have already been hired to work on a cruise ship and I am having doubts. I will be doing a kitchen helper job. I have having second thoughts about going ahead with it.

Could someone give me the pros and cons of a cruise ship job and their experiences?

  1. I worked on cruise ships for 10 years, never as a crewmember, always as a staff member.

Staff is better, means working at reception, shops, casinos, photo, spas...

Its a great life and I loved every minute, but a kitchen helper doesnt have much time off, doesnt make a lot of $$ and doesnt enjoy the passenger facilities at all.

    I would not do it.

Why dont you go for a staff position?

Your english seems good, go work for the shops, its easy, lots of time off, better $$ than a kitchen helper and they dont usually discriminate your nationality.

Also, since the shops are usually closed while the ship is docked, you can see all the ports and sights.

    try

they have shops on some 50 ships, its easy to get in, interviews are on the phone.

All you need is some retail experience.

email me if you want more info.

Also, the whole notion of the kitchen job being worth really depends on your need for what they pay. That, only you can answer.

  2. the pros are......travelling to different places....BUT the cons are ....Long working hours....Little pay....tiny living quarters and Long contracts of working....like 10 mos to 16 mos at a time....are u American or from another country???   If you are from a foreign country...the cruise lines take ur passport upon arrival and have u at their will.......good thing about ships is tho...if and when u can move up in kitchen....for more pay...good luck
