  1. Conservatives believe that they can protect the people from terrorism with the rigid inspections and intrusion into private lives of people.

Liberals can save the people from global warming but it cannot do anything with nature causing the heating of the earth.

  2. Here's an answer from the middle:

    No and no.

Here's why. There are certain (not all or many) liberties we must give up to live in a society that is united. Things like; we give up the liberty to kill anyone we want, but also we give up the liberty to impose our thoughts and beliefs on anyone else, no matter how good they think it is for us.

To achieve certain things a nation with supreme power must exert that power in order to maintain order, and more importantly, to remain powerful. In regards to the environment, it is not for us citizens to look to the government for help, because they will just make it all a confusing system we have to pay taxes for, only to pay for a useless bureaucracy to oversee it, with very little getting accomplished. Sound like the welfare system? If we want to save the environment, it requires sacrifice from everyone. But don't try to scare us into it with senseless rhetoric either.

  3. Both sides are equally full of s--t. You hit the nail on the head!

  4. I agree with the first poster that both side are committed to eliminating civil rights.  That is one reason I became a libertarian.  I see the lies, deceptions, smokescreens, illusions, disinformation, misinformation, propaganda, and deceit from conservatives/liberals.

I find it even more interesting how conservatives/liberals hardly even mention the Constitution.  It's as if it's an historic document, unworthy to read, study, and applicable to current problems.

  5. Good question. I am all for civil liberties but if your dead than what do you need civil liberties for.

  6. Both sides are committed to the revoking of civil liberties, the only point of contention is which ones.  As an independent I must also point out that the government can't save us from anything unless we start electing officials with a long term plan and a coherent policy rather than on straight party tickets and personal popularity.  When it has come down to a choice between the Prom King and Queen or the old guy at the craps table with the beer talking about how tough he was 30 years ago, things have gone badly wrong.

  7. Depending on who wins, we'll lose different rights. I side with the Republicans because I don't talk about anything illegal over the phone. Wiretaps really don't matter to me. But I love my guns and don't want to lose them.

  8. I am a screaming radical and I believe neither can happen. What we need is to legalize dueling with a formal set of rules and then let all the extremists fight it out. In six to eight months we could then get on with the problem solving because all the extremist a$$holes would have killed each other off. America would have a courteous can do attitude once again.

  9. For any restriction on civil liberties there needs to be a ballot question with a sunset clause.

We may need to have a temporary restriction, but not permanent, not without a ballot approval.
