  1. Really for me I think of plastic, the real oil hog. Plastic is made from oil, and when you think about everything in the room that is made of or uses some sort of plastic. Our society can find alternatives for oil based fuels, we have them, we are just lazy, BUT what would we do for plastic? No more plastic bottles, fans, cars, deodorant sticks, power cables! I can't think of a good alternative, glass? not *** versatile as plastic, metals? very energy heavy to produce, recycling? YES! but recycling is energy heavy too, and also not that many people recycle (especially in the US). As for gasoline, there will be alternatives, for instance Mercedes plans to get rid of petroleum based cars by 2015 or something like that, and everything starts with luxury cars and then trickles down to the Honda's and Toyotas, so there is hope! for cars at least.

    hope this helps,

    m

  2. Will we run out of gas

  3. cars that run with gas will disappear and everybody will be using the energy cars or either be riding bikes. oh and that gas will probably reach 7 dollars pretty soon!!!

  4. hmmmmmm...

what will happen to us when we finally run out of gas?

when is the next price hike?

cant we switch to some other resources which is more environmentally friendly?

what about job opportunities after petroleum is over?

we can use biofuel right...why arent we using it?

    walk or carpool?

why didnt we see this before?

    when will this dillema end?

the answer to all this lies in the future generation of leaders...

  5. The biggest ? in my mind is when will MY family be able to afford a hybrid vehicle.

  6. Will the US public and policy makers use this crisis as a impetus for needed change in matters such as over consumption, a car-centric land use policy, and in energy policy or will we continue to rely on the same ol', same ol'.  The solutions are within our grasp.  Some involve research and development of new technologies based on tried and true methods used for centuries such as solar and wind power.  Other solutions are anything but high-tech and simply require us to re-orient our lives around simpler living and community.  I hope we make the harder choice to change our life style and face fear of some unknowns rather than cater to fear monger and catastrophizing by the likes of Rush  Limbaugh and Bill O'Riley.

  7. poor people  can`t afford to go to work and can not afford a new Greene car with great mileage

  8. Do we need to lower the speed limit again?

Cars must overcome major power losses to keep going.  The first is friction of the road this goes up linearly with speed. (not perfectly)

The second is wind drag.  This increases with V^2  That results in almost twice the drag at 75 as at 55.

I tested my car and driving 5 mph slower than normal (the speed limit used to drive 5 over) I get about 5-15% better fuel milliage.  If every family in America did this it could mean 1 gallon per household, or 100 million gallons of gas a week.
