my 4yr old is a very energetic hyperactive child, and very rarely gets tired, but as of last week Thursday to be exact, he wasn't well, he had a slight fever and was very tired, after he recovered from that he still complained for extreme tiredness, his appetite had decreased when he was sick, but little by little it's been increasing.Yesterday for most of the day he'd been complaining about feeling tired, i d k why it is because he eats healthy, not alot but more consistent in the day, i give both my kids multi vitamins, and he usually eats well but like i said only because last week he had came down with the fever and was a little under the weather his appetite had decreased and now it is picking back up bit by bit.Any suggestions to any parent out there what can be the reason as to why he can be so tired lately.P.S. Today he ate and ate alot , like back to his normal amount, and haven't complained yet that he feels tired, i am still watching him attentively though to make sure he'sok

  1. he is probably still recovering from his sickness, but it would be a good idea for him to get more sleep/rest.  if he is still not well in a couple of days take him to the doctor.

  2. This as been going around.  My son - and some of his friends - seem to be having the same issue.  It's like a virus that lasts for several weeks, but is realatively mild.  I think I actually had  a touch of it, as did my mom and husband.

However, we (meaning me and the other moms) aren't quite sure if it is viral or allergy related - but I'm treating it as if it is allergy (since you can't treat a virus) and it does seem to be helpful.

Pollen counts are horrible right now, and allergies can create these symptoms.  As long as he is getting "better" I wouldn't worry.

  3. Let the child sleep if he says he is tired  - he's beginning to know his body better than you.. don't hover or worry.  4yos are resilient as heck.

  4. if he's ok now it was probably just a virus.  there is a virus that causes only light fever and fatigue.  i don't remember the name but it was on dr. G.

just watch him for awhile and if he starts getting sick again bring him to the doctor.

  5. Sounds like being sick really took it's toll on him, he's probably just tired because his body used all the energy he had to get himself well from the inside out and he wasn't eating as much as he usually did.  The body doesn't always bounce right back after having a fever, you have to let him rest.  He could also be going through a growth spurt which would account for some increased tiredness.  If he's returning back to his older routine, eating a lot and having good energy then I don't think anything is wrong with  him, just recovering from being sick.

  6. All that energy is going to catch up with him-- he needs sleep.
