I just got a wisdom tooth out that was impacted. It took a while for the bleeding to get under control. After I left they told me to bite down on gauze for 30 min, then change it and bite down again for 30. They said after that it should be under control. well it wasnt so they said to get some gauze wet, bite down on it for 30 min and then change it and bite down for another 30 minutes. well it stopped bleeding as heavily but i am still having some blood. is this normal? they told me to stop using the gauze unless the bleeding gets heavier again. I thought i was supposed to use gauze til it clotted?

  1. Yeah, that is normal. I got mine out a couple months ago. Mine was bleeding until the afternoon of the second day.

  2. If the gauze isn't working for you, you can always bite down on a damp tea-bag.  There is something in tea leaves that promotes blood clotting.

If you continue to bleed after trying the tea bag, call your dentist immediately.  You don't want to have questions over the weekend.

  3. If it is still bleeding, and you are not poking at it, I would continue to bite down on the gauze until it stops.  Same thing happened to my daughter last year.  It bled more than expected, but it stopped the day of the surgery.

  4. Call your doctor.............
