Questions linger over New York Yankees’ Brian Cashman’s meeting with Hal Steinbrenner
It has been three weeks since the New York Yankees went out of the American League Championship Series and the clock has moved closer to 2012. The club is still making considerable decisions both inside and outside the administration.
It has been reported that the New York Yankees current general manager Brian Cashman had a meeting with managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner in New York on Monday, to discuss the new contract for GM spot. According to the sources known to the deal,
the contract is expected to be finalised before next Monday.
However, Cashman did not agree with the rumours about his discussion regarding the expiring deal. Cashman overthrew all the discussion saying that he does not have primary concern for his own deal. According to a major newspaper, Cashman and Steinbrenner
discussed the present condition of the club and not Cashman’s deal.
"It'll get done between now and Oct. 31st, I'm sure," Cashman said last week. "I can't promise, but I think that's what everybody expects. I know it's something that everybody has to follow. But that's not a pressing circumstance, as far as something I'm
worried about right now."
Last week, Cashman scouted on new players in New York and made some undisclosed decisions regarding the future players. It was reported that Cashman will fly to Tampa, Florida on Tuesday to meet with other key members of the team. He was reported to meet
with all of the members in the team.
Cashman has been a part of the Yankees since 1998 and the club has won five Championship Series under his presidency. Statically, the Yankees have played each post-season since 1998 except 2008. Cashman has cemented his GM position and the Yankees will still
need him in the upcoming seasons.
In 2008, Cashman signed a 6-million-dollar agreement with the club with a new ambition. He agreed to the deal only after his statement that he made in a press conference at Yankee Stadium. He said, he is “staying to change the story” of his time as GM.
Cashman proved what he had said. First, he signed long-term contracts with Carsten Charles Sabathia, Allan James Burnett and Mark Teixeira and then boosted the club to their 27th Championship in his first year of service.
