2. What kind of sickness can hamster get? what is the most common sickness it can get? how do you treat it? (all hamsters: Syrian, Robo, Dwarf, Chinese)

3. Can you teach gerbils or hamsters any tricks? Can you call them buy name, sit, stay? anything!? just wondering. It would be cool to teach them it.

  1. Well gerbils hardly ever get sick but the most common is respiratory infection

You can treat it with ornacycline

you can find it in the bird section

  2. well i dont kno anything about gerbils but i have 2 hamsters. a hamster can get sick if you give it a bath and it could possibly die. nope they cant learn any tricks.

  3. Gerbils really only suffer from epilepsy. Be sure to ask about your pet's background before adopting. There isn't much you can do about this because it is genetic. Other problems are age related. The most common problems with hamsters is wet tail and tumors. Wet tail is easily treated with plenty of non-watery vegetables such as carrots and cabbage, yogurt, and something like Dri-Tail from a pet store. You can give the medicine to them with the dropper or put it in their water. Tumors have to be surgically removed if they are causing a problem or preventing the hamster from going about everyday life. As far as teaching them tricks, I don't believe you can. I'm sorry but they aren't the brightest crayons in the box when it comes to the rodent group lol. I know they can recognize your voice, your footsteps, and gerbils will come to greet you when you open their cage door. But as far as any of the tricks you named, I don't believe so.

  4. 1. gerbils can receive a very small range of diseases. the most common one is gerbiltoeitis in which the gerbils get clots in there toes and they fall off. my gerbil did this and it scared the cra.p outta me. The easiest way to treat it is to tape its toes back on for the foot will reattach the toes if there is still an open wound.

    2. Hamsters on the other hand can receive a very large variety of diseases inlcuding in the influenza. parkins dieseas and wilsons. they are also very vulnerable to flesh eating bacteria and it is very important ro rub your hamsters belly everyday as to ease its stomach and destroy all flesh eating bacteria. The most common sickness for a hamster his called hairfalloffinitis. This is where the hamsters hair falls off in random spots and often forms the shape of a unicorn. The hair grows immediattly back but still it is quite amazing yet if might die from cold if this happens overnight. The Ancient Incas believed this was a sacred happening and whenever this happened they had mass sacrifice. The easist way to treat hairfalloffinitis is to poke random spots on the hamster and sing twinkle twinkle little star to it.

    3. you wont even belive the variety of tricks hamsters and gerbils can learn. hamsters are  better at learning than gerbils. hamsters learn there name if called it repeatedly in a high pitch voice. and oh ya you must rub there tummy counterclockwise for this to work. this process takes about 7 and 1/2 minutes. gerbils on the other hand do not learn their name the same way or as fast. for gerbils you must say it every 2 and 1/2 seconds exactly in differnt pitches everytime. they also must have their belly AND back being rubbed. belly clockwise back counterclockwise. this process takes about 53 and 3/4 minutes. hamsters can learn a wide variety of tricks my hamster can do cartwheels and has gotten to a black belt. he can do flips and one time he bit someones finger off with only one tooth. it was amazing. blood went everywhere. my favorite trick my hamster does is he does a one toed handstand while nibblig on cheerios and singing the barney ending song. he is also at the time killing ninjas with karate and his one leg while the other feeds soup to elderly and needy old ladies its friciken amazing. it took 7 years but it was all worth it. the gerbil cannot learn such a variety. its taken me 9 years but i finally taught him to gnaw off an enemy's teeth. fricken gerbils cant do anything!

  5. Questions on Gerbils and Hamsters?

I just have a couple of questions on gerbils and Hamsters:

    1. What kind of sicknesses can gerbils get? what is the most common sickness it can get? how do you treat it?

Gerbils can get colds and respitory problems pretty easily. thye best way to fix this is to make sure their is not a draft going through the cage and make sure the bedding is care friendly to the rodent( no saw dust, pine,or ceder beddings)

    2. What kind of sickness can hamster get? what is the most common sickness it can get? how do you treat it? (all hamsters: Syrian, Robo, Dwarf, Chinese)

Exactly the same as the first awser.

    3. Can you teach gerbils or hamsters any tricks? Can you call them buy name, sit, stay? anything!? just wondering. It would be cool to teach them it.

They can learn their name's but that takes alot of training the best way is to make a clicking or a clucking sound with your toung when your about to feed them. this way when you make that sound they come to you to get food.

I Hope this helps you alot~!

  6. Gerbils are not prone to hardly any sicknesses...the only thing we have problems with at my work (Petsmart) is they fight a lot. Hamsters are prone to wet tail which is diahrrea in hamsters and can kill them. It happens due to stress. You treat it with well you can get some stuff called dri tail. It would need .1cc of the medication (i think it comes with a syringe) the best stuff to use is called Pectillin. Hamsters and Gerbils really dont learn tricks. Mice will though!

  7. I had a gerbil family once when I was a small child-

We started with a mom, dad, and about 7 little gerbils...  The baby gerbils kept disappearing one by one until one day there were none left.  A few days later I walked into my bedroom only to be horrified to see the mother eating the father...  I'm not sure what caused this, but needless to say my mother disposed of the cage and I never had rodants as a pet again!
