OK. so i just wanted to know some causes and effects of the Spanish-American War. 2 causes and 2 effects. Ant long term effects?ei, money spent abd lives lost?

  1. The Spanish-American war was started because the Americans wanted to free the Philippines and Cuba. The Treaty of Paris ended the war giving the colonies of Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Guam. One of the effects is that we still have the colony of Guam under US control.

Spanish-American War started because US felt it was time to stop standing on the sidelines of the imperialism game.  So when the Maine blew up in Havana it was a perfect opportunity and so the US invades Cuba (San Juan Hill and all that) and Dewey wins in Manilla and so we get Cuba and The Philippines and whathaveyou.  

    As for lives lost, the US spent about 15 years (1898-1913)fighting an insurgency in the Philippines with more people dying of tropical disease than anything else.
