i need these information on the World Islands in Dubai:

-Why was there a need to create new islands in Dubai?

eg: attract tourists? Let people know more about Dubai?

-how was the construction carried out?

eg: where did they start working on? what method of land reclamation was used? what machines was used?

There was an excellent documentary on the National Geographic Channel called Man Made: Impossible Island.  It was a very thoughtful piece.

I am not an engineer but will summarize it the technical part as best I can.  Basically, they are dredging the nearby underwater sand to make the islands.  Ecologically, this is creating an environment in which tidal waves are more likely to form.  It is devasting the ability of the local fishermen to earn a living.

Why did they create the islands?  The Sultan of Dubai wants to impress the world while a large number of his people live in poverty.  Honestly, learning more about the island made me furious. There is no justification to build these monuments to vanity while his own people suffer.  Use the d**n oil money to build a true, competitive, educational society so that when the stuff runs out, Dubai and its people will survive and thrive.  Use the money to help other Islamic peoples and build a slightly smaller monement to ego.
