Questions on dancing?

okay, i'm writing a story that happens in a medieval world, and there is a ball scene. and i was wondering what sort of dances they would do other than the waltz. or should i just make up a dance?

  1. medieval. Have you watched "a knights tale" with heath ledger coz there are some names of dances said in that when there is a formal dance scene. Also it is a good movie and heath ledger was fit.

  3. it depends on what area you are writing about. If its set in Britain (england or scotland or whatever) than a popular dance then was the "carol", a circular dance where dancers held hands. the "black almain" was a partners dance.

    if your book is set in medieval france, "the basse" was def. the most popular dance, for sure.

    There are plenty more like the popular "estampie", the "reale" and others. the development of ballet started around 15th  century italy so that was popular to watch.

    there are plenty more, but the waltz still was a popular one.
